Companion Cube with cake within is most certainly not a lie photo

A few months after Portal came out, the internet was suddenly choking under the weight of Companion Cube plushies and cakes and every craft related to the game you can possible imagine. We posted a lot of them, but after a while we just had to let them pass us by -- enough was enough.

Of course, it's been a few while since all that went down, and so seeing a new Portal themed craft -- especially a really, really good one like this -- is noteworthy again. A Live Journal user by the name of James White created this pitch perfect Companion Cube out of wood, which swings open to reveal the fabled cake. I don't think this will necessarily fire up the Portal craft army again, but it's nice to see someone do game crafts with such inspiration and precision.

I only just started and finished Portal 3 weeks ago, I finished it out the same day I got it as well :] It was a great game and can see why people wanted the sequel and these sort of things. 'Twas a great game.

I wouldn't mind one of those myself :D

I might have met this person at a convention last weekend. I dunno if it's the exact same, but there was someone there carrying around a really well-crafted companion cube.

I wish I had the ambition to make something like that.

I want a Companion Cube safe. It's boxy, it can have the door too, and criminals wouldn't dare turn away from it for a second or get too close lest they get stabbed!

Would be even better if it was a functional fridge. Either way, this was a triumph.

That'd be great, a companion cube shaped refrigerator soley used to store up cake.

Yeah, this is hot, but I agree, it needs to be a Companion Cube kegerator.

I don't think that you can make fridges out of wood, unless said wood were incredibly well varnished, and maybe not even then. (Heat, humidity, warping... you get the idea...)

Nevertheless, a companion-cube-minifridge for storing cake would indeed be awesome.

They must actually use it for something, that shelf seems randomly placed. I guess that's not that weird though, hell if I had a companion cube I'd use it for whatever I possibly could.

I might as well give up life now, nothing I do will ever be as awesome as that. Kidding, naturally. But Valve, are you seeing this? If you make a companion cube minifridge, I will buy it!

The cake may be a lie, but this is the truth :P :)

All this talk of Portal fridges makes me think a fridge that said Glados quotes when it's opened would be an amazing idea as well!
