Remember the Commodore Computer, the definitive computer of the 1980's? No? I can see it now: half of our readership is scratching their heads in confusion (or hitting up the wiki) while the rest are grinning as memories of Commando and Blue Max float through their heads.
Next week (March 15th) in Hannover, Germany, CeBIT 2007 will take place, and the Commodore computer will rise from the dead - relaunched as a gaming rig. According to Gamesdog, the new PC will be gaming focused and contain gaming hardware of the highest specifications.
Bala Keilman, CEO for Commodore Gaming said, "25 years ago, Commodore launched the best selling personal computer of the late 20th Century, the C64, and defined the early computer games experience for millions of people worldwide. "
"We are privileged and excited to bring the Commodore brand back to the gaming community and mark a new chapter in its history with this exceptional machine. We're sure that it will deliver what gamers need and want."
If they can even come close to the success of the C64, which sold around 17 million units, then Commodore would become the name in PC gaming.

I'm sorry, but this is a TERRIBLE idea. Almost as bad as when HP said they wanted to make a gaming console, but at least HP has been semi-successful in recent history.
As long as it isn't an overpriced piece of crap (*hackcough*ALIENWARE*coughcough*), I'd be interested to see how they work on this.
You mean slow with spaghetti wiring?
Man, you can dig up a lot of old "Commie" hate on various text file archives.
I played my first game on a C64 (Lemmings ftw!).
Yeah. While I think it sounds good that they want to be a brand again, the world of computing has changed VASTLY in the last 30 years.
I don't see how they plan on expanding past being a beige box company like Alienware or Voodoo.
I loved my C64. I was like 3 or 4 and my brother got one from my parents. We played the shit out of it. I remember Legacy of the Ancients and its copy protection code wheel, and my Zak McKraken/Maniac Mansion obsession. Good days.
Ahh the classics. Raid on Bungling Bay, Raid over moscow, Ghostbusters, Zork, escape from castle wolfenstein.
i like where this is going. i was really young when the commodore 64 was around but have vague memorys of having my cousins in my possession for quite a while. it was the first computer i ever played.
The title should of read Commodore is coming back, IN POG FORM!
Anyway could be either a horrible failure or it could be the biggest thing since Atari's comeback!
....Wait...
Here's hoping they put the games on 5 1/4" disks again (or cassette tape readers with 20 minute load times!!), complete with command line launches and syntax errors.
I already want one!
i was in 5th grade playing 'Bruce Lee' on the C64.
PS3 showed it's home and no article about it on Destructoid? I am ashamed of this site!
Today has been a complete suckage day for Destructoid
Hail teh lordz!
Im sadly really excited!! I loved my amiga it was awesomes
Blindside:
Summa didn't want his PS3 getting taken away for posting about it.
Well they have videos of it on gametrailers.com...
wow still no sony vids or topics..sloooow
sorry, if i were there I'd put up some info, but as it stands now it would just be a reposting of what you've read elsewhere
James: Go to the Forum. I'd bet all the D'toid editors are off building their own Homes right now. Summa's will be inside a giant PS3 where a constantly burning effigy of the Wii will heat the Home and provide sustenance to those who come to visit.
"I'm sorry, but this is a TERRIBLE idea."
Exactly.
Besides, real gamers build their own PCs.
I'm suprised they don't have an official website yet.
