Quantcast

These days, videogame commercials try so hard to be "awesome" that they nearly always end up generic and uninteresting. Once upon a time, commercials didn't have to try, they were either sparks of genius, or so utterly retarded that they were destined to become classics.

I'm not sure which of those two classifications this old Spyro 2 commercial falls under, but I do know it's one of many great/stupid old commercials we aim to highlight.  I foresee a vast majority of them being PlayStation adverts. Once upon a time, Sony actually had fantastic marketing behind its system. How times have changed.

While we're at it, I recommend digging out an old copy of Spyro or downloading it on PSN. The old games still hold up shockingly well.

Great game. And you're right, Sony's marketing division was phenomenonally better than what they have right now. I remember hating the PS3/PSP commercials with a passion. The only recent Sony commercial I've liked was the PS9.

I agree, the PS9 was a damn decent commercial, shame we've had only crying babies and other weird shit since then.

I think advertisement in general has dropped a huge amount of levels in the last years...

The last gaming comercial that I thought was fucking brilliant was the one for the original XBOX, with the baby popping out, then growing older as it flew in the air and then landing in the grave, with as comment "Life's short, play more!"

The old Spyro games probably hold up so well because they were developed by Insomniac. <3 Insomniac.

I always liked the PS1 ads, even if I never owned the system. More claymation would be cool, if any game ad agencies are listening.

I'm sure plenty of people will disagree, but in my humble opinion the PS1/N64 era of gaming had the best ads
