Go on a wild trip

Far Cry 3 had some pretty wild moments. Like, remember when Vaas was dancing around on the stripper pole? Good stuff. Far Cry 4 will have some crazy segments as well, but these are a little more grounded to the core of the game.

Scattered around Kyrat are hidden tankas that, once discovered, allow the main character to meditate and travel to Shangri-La to relieve the life of a legendary warrior. You'll be transported to a surreal world with floating islands and you are equipped with only a bow and arrow to take on the enemies of these environments.

Oh, and you have a tiger that you can command to attack others. The tiger can also turn invisible.

There will be a handful of these levels spread across Kyrat. Completing them will give you new skills for the skill tree, but let's face it, you're largely going to do these levels to tell a tiger whose face to chew off over and over again.

In this particular we had to go free a bell of enlightenment that had been tied down by large chains. This is a fantasy realm, and the path to the bell is spread across floating islands. You'll have to go through teleporting doors to reach other islands, and along the way are these wild-looking enemies.

For the most part you can take them down with just your bow and arrow. There will be enemies that can't be killed with arrows, so you'll have to use your tiger buddy to distract these enemy types, giving you a chance to sneak up behind them and drive a knife into their skulls.

So yeah, not much to it. A fun diversion and I'm hoping each instance of these tanka missions will be diverse enough to warrant actually playing through them all. It will get old fast, as much fun as it is was to command a ninja tiger.

Oh, and rhinos confirmed to bring about the pain in Far Cry 4.

Here's 26 minutes of Far Cry 4 gameplay with commentary

Max and I got a chance to dick around in an almost-finished build of Far Cry 4, but unfortunately Max went home sick with an earache, so here's my playthrough, along with my impressions. And Max's dumb jokes.more

Far Cry 4 features a more dynamic and vibrant open world

Back in 2012, Far Cry 3 turned out to be a surprise hit for Ubisoft. It became the bestselling title of the series, appearing on many game of the year lists, and also created a rather excellent spin-off title. But with the an...more

Here's 5 particularly weird things in Far Cry 4

Max was poring through some new Far Cry 4 footage and spotted a few things that he didn't quite understand. Here's his top picks of interesting things he can't explain, because this game isn't out yet and we thought you might want to see some of it because this is a videogame website, you clown.more

This is what happens when you harpoon a bear in Far Cry 4

Here I was all prepared to say that I didn't feel like I'd be missing much by not pre-ordering Far Cry 4 and then they go and harpoon a bear. It's not fair, damn it. It's just not fair! Pre-orders also come with three exclusive missions featuring Hurk, who I'm only now learning was a character in Far Cry 3, too (in a DLC pack). Huh. He seems ... annoying. That harpoon gun, though.more

Tigers are the most badass weapon in Far Cry 4

Far Cry 4 has its share of weapons that look fun to use. Machine guns? Sure, they're tried-and-true and will get the job done. Mortars? Maybe a bit of overkill, but at least you don't have to get dirty. Tigers? Wait, wh...more

Far Cry 4's Pagan Min teaches a man to scream for help, not text for help

Poor Pagan Min. He tries ruling his regime with a positive influence, but all those terrorists are there to just, ahem, "muck" it up. Maybe his tendencies to take hostages and implement electroshock torture aren't viewed by everyone as "positive," but it's tough to argue with such a snazzy dresser.more

This Far Cry 4 trailer is all about the elephants

Even when Far Cry 4 was officially nothing more than message-board rumors, I was all about the elephants. It's nice to see Ubisoft give the people want they want, then, by putting out a trailer that's devoted to these animal...more

Of course we checked out Far Cry 4's elephant booty physics at PAX

Prior to this video being shot, Max may have taken a double dose of the assorted pills that truckers use to drive 36 consecutive hours. I can't be sure. It wasn't my day to keep track of him. But, the point you should take away from this is how realistic that elephant's ass (probably) looks. With booty physics like that, it's no wonder Far Cry 4 ended up as one of our top games of PAX Prime.more

You aren't at PAX? Let Max Scoville give you the tour

PAX Prime 2014 is winding down, but that doesn't mean those of us at home can't pretend like we are there, stalking Max Scoville as he roams the show floor. I was going to give a detailed play-by-play of the video here, but ...more

Meet the Far Cry 4 villain's striking right-hand woman

Far Cry 4 is certainly shaping up to have quite a colorful cast, with the eccentric self-proclaimed king Pagan Min and now his newly-revealed second in command, Yuma. Yuma is a "deadly tactician" and acts as the general ...more

I picked up the Excalibastard in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

There has been a bit of talk about an interesting legendary weapon in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel that is in plain sight, but unavailable at first. Excalibastard is stuck in a stone in the area Stanton's Liver, and only those...more

Destiny has so much lore, it's sad that almost none of it is in the game

In-game, Destiny's story is probably the worst part of the experience. Constant Dinklebot "defense" missions and short exposes during load screens are hardly what I'd call a narrative, but that's what Bungie ended up giving u...more
