Spore was to me nothing more than a giant "meh".
But I never expected it to be anything for me anyway, so no loss I guess. Maxis has never done it for me anyways, although I have some faint memories of enjoying SimTunes as a little kid, that was awesome!

I'm interested to see how this could turn out. I normally don't play games in the style of Spore, but if done right this could be quite interesting.
I'm just not sure that Spore sold well enough to merit a spin-off like this. I think a lot of people had poor memories of the original, so branding an Action RPG with the name seems a little misplaced to me. Because you can create almost anything you want in Spore, it seems like this game could be about anything. Therefore, is there a fresh new idea here to add to the Spore IP, or are they just using the name to try and sell a few extra copies of a new game?
I enjoyed Spore while I played it, but that wasn't for as long as I was hoping.
The game has about as much depth as a puddle, which is a shame because the concept had a lot of potential and unless you love the creator tools, it really doesn't lend itself well to replaying. I was left wishing Will Wright had collaborated on the gameplay with someone like Sid Meier, because I was hoping for something with meat on the bone like Sim City. Instead, Spore feels more what I imagine Ubisoft DS titles being. All it needed was a different title like Imagine: Cellz & Star Empirez.

I'm one of the people who played Spore all the way to the Space stage, and I wound up hating it the further through the timeline I got. I LOVED Cell, since it was so simple and not particularly easy. And handily enough, the first Spore app on the App Store was nothing but Cell stage. I just stopped once I hit Space because I didn't care anymore. I even stopped before Civilization or whatever, but a friend goaded me into continuing. Damn her.
As long as I don't have to fucking call their help line to reinstall my game a 3rd time, I'll try it.
I fully enjoyed the game up until a few hours into Space. Then I realized it was Masters of Orion Lite that I would probably never ever beat, and wishing I was back in the evolutionary stages. Although finding that planet full of Jesus creatures was kinda funny.
