During the Gears of War 2 presentation at Comic-Con, Cliff Bleszinski unveiled an interesting and new twist for Achievements. Apparently, Gears of War 2 will feature “linked Achievements,” which depending on what you accomplished in the original Gears of War, will unlock playable characters in the upcoming sequel. Kotaku was present when Cliff announced the new system and jotted down a list of his examples.
- Complete ‘Act One’ in Gears Of War, unlock a playable Anthony Carmine in Gears of War 2
- Find 10 COG tags in Gears Of War, unlock Minh Young Kim in Gears of War 2
- Kill Raam in Gears Of War, unlock a playable Raam in Gears of War 2
In addition to the Achievements announcement, journalists were also told that Steve Jablonsky was at the helm for the soundtrack of
Gears of War 2, and is nearly finished with his work. Jablonsky is the man responsible for the
Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath soundtrack, as well as films like
The Island and
Transformers. While I don’t mind Jablonsky’s work, I’m more excited about the retroactive Achievement bonuses. It gives me a reason rekindle my chainsaw lust. Anyone up for some co-op?
