Eurogamer had a little chat with Microsoft Game Studios' Frank O'Connor at Comic-Con 08 and got some choice quotes about the direction Microsoft wants to take the Halo franchise in.
"We have a really detailed story bible, we do really have it all planned out. There are so many areas of the universe to explore, the real challenge is picking which is the most exciting area for people."
He's got a point there; how many Halo books are there nowadays? On the other hand, just because there's ample source material, that doesn't necessarily mean the world needs twenty games to fully explain it.
Frank goes on to say that "we have a well defined, carefully orchestrated, properly planned universe to explore not exploit, and that's the tricky part: what are the things people want to do?"
With 3 seperate Halo games in development, I find it hard to believe that the series won't be exploited. Then again, if the games are good enough to please the fans, you won't see me starting up an Internet petition.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied:
"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
But, we can look at Viva Pinata...exploited with a saturday morning cartoon show. Not explored in the least.
On the other hand, search for the Halo 3 Believe commercial campaign. Then look at the video shorts they made for the defunct movie. There is some serious art and consideration there.
It's going to be a matter of perspective and hearing what you want to hear. It's easy to say something is being cheaply exploited if that is what you WANT to see happening. And that my friend is a certifiable break with reality...
I know we're not allowed to like Halo here on Destructoid without being labeled a an idiot or a college jock.
They certainly need to make more Halo games and cover more story and more multiplayer experiences, but they certainly should never exploit it. Remember when Lucasfilms Games exploited Star Wars with Star Wars Chess and Star Wars Racing?
Yeah. I don't want to see Halo Chess.
That said, unless one of the new games is Halo 4: DO NOT WANT. The Halo universe is garbage. Master Chief is a shallow character, the storyline has been done 100x before, and I really don't care about the plight of the Covenant Elite. Halo is consistently a Day 1 purchase for me because I absolutely love the feel and competitiveness of the multiplayer. Instead of play a whole suite of different Halo games, give me another game with that same multiplayer feel in a universe that doesn't suck. Sometimes I feel like Bungie and Microsoft believe that if they keep telling us it's a "rich universe" we'll eventually believe it.
I for one think the Halo source material is quality stuff. I've played the games and read the books, and there really is great material underneath the obvious flaws. I wouldn't mind seeing some of that mythos brought to life.
So there you have it: My name is MechaMonkey, and I like Halo.
I am looking foward to any new Halo books or games but they seem to be trying to get as many games out as possible right now and it feels like (too early to say yet?) they are starting to exploit it
And its so funny to see the hypocrisy of people, Nintendo can dish out as many Mario, Metroid and Zelda games it wants BUT BUNGIE BETTER NOT FUCKING MAKE A HALO 4 CAUSE ITS OLD AND OVERPLAYED AND SHIT.
And less I forgot Mario Whatever since the plumber seems to be a multitasker, from baseball to soccer, AMAZING.
But Bungie is a douche for trying to expand their universe, fuck them for wanting to make money.
GUESS THAT MAKES ME A 12 YEAR OLD/FRATBOY DOUCHE.
Go play your award winning games then you elitist pricks. I'll be over here along with my friend having FUN.
Id like more games in the Halo universe. Its not perfect but after three fairly epic campaigns (not always great, but always impressive and epic in feel) ive been drawn in fairly strongly. Not to mention, the games are generally fun to play, even when the story is lacking.
I still think theyll exploit it eventually. However, not immediately making Halo 4 is a good start.
