We're moments away from the televised broadcast of the 2008 Spike Video Game Awards, live from Los Angeles, California.
Now despite the fact that I am on the 2008 VGA Advisory Council this year, helping to pick both nominees and award winners, I'm not able to attend in person. That honor goes to our very own Chad Concelmo, who just a few moments ago text messaged me "ZOMG FAMOUS PEOPLE!" after seeing what I can only assume to be be actual "famous people."
And since you can't be there either, here's what we at Destructoid propose -- we all watch it together! The show is airing live on Spike TV (check your local listings) at 9 PM EST. If you don't have cable or are too lazy to turn on your television, you can also check the broadcast from four different angles online.
Hit the jump for our full live blog, along with a list of nominees (and my own personal choices as a VGA Advisory Council member -- yes, I expect to get flamed for some of them).
Fun things are fun!
[Update: Long-time Dtoider and swell guy Electro Lemon will be streaming the broadcast live, and has set up a chat stream via Ustream.tv. We'll all be in there watching the show ... come join us!]
[Update 2: The show is over, as is the live chat, which quickly turned into close to 200 people just yelling at each other. Thanks for watching along with us. We'll be posting all of the world premiere trailers over the next day, so be sure to check back.
Winners (in bold) after the jump.]

HIGH FIVE!
No.
Way to go buddy, you screwed it up.
It's madness, I tell you!
If GTA4 was a better game it would have won for 360 right? You know what, forget it. Award shows are stupid anyway.
Show was horrible. I usually like Jack Black, but he was annoying the hell out of me.
Even the GoW3 footage was too short to redeem the show. Looked good though.
And why the redundant categories for best game for each platform and then Game of the Year? It gives you a weird situation where Gears 2 beats GTA IV for Best Xbox 360 Game, but loses to GTA IV for game of the year. I know WHY it happens (because other system's exclusives take votes away from Gears in the GoTY voting), but it still makes the whole thing look like a farce. Which it is.
Um...but Jack Black hasn't produced good music in the last 5 years. The D has clearly taken a permanent backseat to his acting career (which is understandable, if disappointing) and the soundtrack to the movie was a let-down.
Also, is it safe to assume NHL09 got best team sports game?
RAGE!
GRAND THEFT AUTO 4 IS NOT A BETTER ACTION ADVENTURE GAME THAN METAL GEAR SOLID 4!
Sorry, I'm just a little peeved by the whole affair, and my dick is so hard for Kojima.
And yes GTA4 is much better than MGS4...much much better...you're comparing a game to a movie you realize.
I just don't consider Grand Theft Auto an "action-adventure" game. That's all.
I've come to the realisation that they are all as worthless as eachother (Since Juno won a fucking Oscar). They are supposed to be a sybol of recognition but everyone treats them almost like a fact, as if to say "Well opinions are subjective, but if you make a shiney object to go with that opinion, it becomes something more."
You can barely say Spike awards are worth less than any other award. There is no presitige. It's all just dressed up opinion. Some are dressed more classy than others. All it takes is to get some statues made, a venue booked and agents, the more money you have the more prestige you can buy.
"You're nothing with an award if you can't be something without one" - (Paraphrased) John Candy, Cool Runnings haha! Can't argue with that.
wtf?
Awesome.
