Collector's edition of Killzone 2 available after Sony said it wasn't photo

A few weeks back, Sony had confirmed that there was "no collector's edition slated for Killzone 2," claiming that since Guerrilla had put all its effort into the software side of things, such extra trinkets weren't necessary. Apparently, such trinkets actually were necessary, at least in Europe.

Yes, a collector's edition of Killzone 2 does exist, despite claims to the contrary. Europeans can pre-order "limited edition collector's box," which consists of a metal tin and ... not a lot else. Previously, the only place this version of the game existed was in a few European countries like Spain, but shopto.net has secured what looks like exclusive rights to sell this version in the UK.

The great news is that it actually isn't very expensive, available in the UK for a mere £32.99. Even more pleasantly, Brits can pick up the regular version of the game for a now-reduced £29.99. Not bad, considering publishers usually charge up to fifty quid for new releases. Shopto has also taken the liberty of switching over pre-existing preorders to the metal box edition.

We'll have our Killzone 2 video review up and running as soon as is humanly possible. Stay tuned.

[Thanks, Kylius]

Well, they certainly HAD put all the effort into the software side of things, considering a tin box is the only actual thing added, and you don't need Guerrilla Games to do that.

Oh great, so that means us poor Yanks are still stuck with the boring old plastic box version. What gives, SCEA? :(

Not to be to point out the obvious or anything, but Sony's Jeff Rubenstein works for SCEA not SCEE (or SCEJ). So anything he has to say only applies to the US unless specifically stated otherwise.

You should do an article on all the paid reviews for Killzone 2.

What is that supposed to mean?

@moshakirby,

Yeah, I'm sure that the universally great reception ever since the game went into beta has ALL been payed for by Sony and NONE of it is at all legitimate.

The game went gold over a month before release and pretty much EVERY review site has had copies of the game since forever. Just like with movies, the only way that a company will let so many people have access to a game SO early is if they're confident that the good word of mouth will up sales.

That's why PG-13 horror movies and anything with titles in the form of, "Something" Movie don't ever get pre release screenings. Word of mouth works in exactly the opposite way for crap games and movies.

Damn you and your crazy space-money, Jim!

Grrr!

How much is this in REAL money? (USD, in case my joke failed)

I find it hard to believe that sony'd sell it for less than $59.99 MSRP here.

ShopTo are quickly becoming one of my favourite sites.

Now if only they could sort out that horrid design...
