CNN, an increasingly relevant and informative news outlet, has put the Nintendo 3DS through its paces, using a "hardcore gamer" who "grew up on Halo" to do their job. CNN's official assessment? It looks too retro and it has worse graphics than a PlayStation 3. JOURNALISM!
"The 3DS is more expensive than a Nintendo Wii, which goes for $199," explained the man who grew up on Halo. "Also, game-friendly competitors like the iPhone and iPod Touch are technically cheaper right out of the gate and definitely do a lot more."
As for the 3D effect, "It's great when it works, but for some people there will definitely be a threshold. Like when I cranked it up to maximum and played for twenty minutes, I walked away cross-eyed, with a minor headache."
"In an age where Apple dominates the consumer tech world with things like the iPad ... which do a myriad things," he concludes, "it's kind of funny to come across the 3DS which does one thing, does it pretty well, but features a pretty retro-looking design that would not be out of place in the 1990s. It also relies on cartridges, something we haven't seen since the last Game Boy, pretty much."

The rest of the review wasn't all that bad. It's the opinion of a modern day tech-snob. He also didn't say the graphics not being as good as a PS3 was a bad thing. He said the graphics were pretty good.
yes he said it doesn't have ps3 graphics, but his tone in how he said it was like it was obvious to most people. He wasn't acting snarky like "psshhhh it doesnt look as cool as a ps3!!!herp derp."

Seriously!? Has that guy never even seen a DS, DSlite, DSi? Besides! The stylus is optional, DS's have touchscreens, just like the "SUPERIOR" iPhone. The stylus is just for extra precision.

As for the iOS devices I can agree they have allot going for them but I still can't find a game that I've been addicted to that isn't a play it for five minuets and put it down game. My iTouch will keep me occupied for a few minuets but when it comes to a long car trip I'm pulling out the DS or PSP.
I haven't seen one of those since the AtariDSboys.

2) Everything he's said is pretty much the truth. Nothing else uses cartridges, its a Clamshell design, which, is rarely used this day and age (granted, its perfect for the system, but still older than dirt by technology design),and honestly, smart phones and apple is crushing the casual market. I see more Teens and Adults playing shit on their pads n' pods than I do kids playing their ds lites.
I came into this thinking the kid was going to be a bro with a pop collar who only plays halo and madden trying to describe the 3DS. What I got is people making fun of another reviewer, doing the same exact thing that they do.
Its a general public review, not a genre specific website review.
As for CNN/Fortune...well they just discovered Blackberry not too long ago so let's give them a little time to Google search about games and the like.
