It's hard not to look at a game like Clover and be immediately reminded of indie darling Braid. That's far from a bad comparison to make, as Braid left a lasting impression on many a gamer who played it, but Clover's introspective music and lovingly hand-drawn look immediately remind you of a breed of game that has the courage to be very different.
Coming out for Xbox Live this May from Binary Tweed, Colver is described as a "political platform puzzler", which definitely piques my curiousity. You can watch a trailer for the game after the jump, which asks at the end "What do you choose to believe?"A thoughtful game, indeed. I can't wait to see more of it.
Deejay from Binary Tweed remarks on their dev blog about the maddening process of being approved for XBLA and shares some thoughts about XNA framework. You may find that an interesting read, especially if you are developing in hopes of getting your game out there in the future. I'll be keeping a close eye on this one, and will bring more news your way as soon as I hear it, but even from the little I've seen, I think Clover just became one of my most-anticipated downloadable titles of 2009. Stay tuned for more.
I read the title as "Clover (Studios) looking to appeal to gamers looking for the extraordinary", and thought Clover Studios was brought back from the dead. Then I wept.
THANKS COLETTE ;D
I like the idea of a "law based game", where you actually are punished for your crimes, rather than something like Oblivion or Fable, where you can eat a bunch of Tofu and simply pay guards to repent. I did like Morrowinds' "Jail" system, however, where you literally had to just sit there and let you statistics slowly rot. I'll give this game a try.
The character design suck, IMO. Walking about with your hands in your pockets? Giant, static googly eyes on every character? Looks like something that belongs on newgrounds.
I hate to judge a game I haven't played, but it looks like regurgitated crap to me.
The main character looks like an introspective douchebag. I know its an Xbox Live Community game, but c'mon, put a little more effort into the character design. I mean it looks like shit I drew in high school.
This looks more like an "idea" game to me than a "game" game. I'm definitely curious though. I think idea games usually introduce really cool concepts that tend to be poorly implemented. But then the ideas filter down to games with bigger budgets that steal those cool ideas and incorporate them into more refined gameplay. They're all very important to the expansion of the medium, even if they aren't always exciting on a moment to moment basis. I'll probably support them with my $$ just on principle.

My thoughts exactly. The premise intrigues me, but it really does look just like a lame flash game and the main character himself is just horrid. The whole "shoegazer" thing is awful. I do hope it turns out to be worth getting, though...at least once my RROD'd Xbox is working again. -_-
I agree with the folks saying it looks terrible, the graphics whore in me is screaming "stay away". Then I see it's a community game and it all makes sense. It could be interesting, I'll definitely at least give the trial a go.
...They really blitzed through most of the dialogue screens, that didn't help the trailer sell the game at all either.
Mmmmm ... I was interested after reading about it, but having watched the video it does look like it's trying too hard to be Braid. And not quite succeeding.
But it's a moot point for me since it's a Community Game and we can't get those here in Australia.
As with most, I agree that the graphics are terrible. Could put me off the entire game, and I don't usually consider myself to be a graphics lady-of-the-night.
The actual game does look interesting. Just don't know if I want to stare at those terrible images for long enough to enjoy it.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

...
Oh, nevermind then.

Buying an XB360 just to play the Live games seems like the financial version of getting broom-raped.
With a splintery handle.

LOL
Idea: turn the venture into a joint project with both The Colbert Report and The Daily Show.

/sigh
