Cloning continues: Zynga accused of copying another game photo

Last week the internet gave Zynga sh*t for biting a bit too much off Tiny Towers for their new game Dream Heights. As you'd imagine, NimbleBit, a three-person company, was not pleased to see that the social gaming monster had stolen from them. Keep in mind that Zynga had previously tried to buy up NimbleBit. Shameless!

Now the fun continues with a new accusation from Buffalo Studios. They feel that Zynga Bingo looks a lot like their Bingo Blitz. A graphic shows a side-by-side view of the two games, and in it Buffalo shows just how similar the two games are.

"Please tell your thousands of employees and shareholders that we hope they enjoy playing the games we're cooking up next," zings Buffalo in the graphic.

Did Zynga not consider that Bingo Blitz has 1 million daily players, and that someone might notice? I guess they are at the point that they can clone whatever they would like to.

It's bingo...what is there to copy?

It's not like Bingo Blitz is the first game to offer player levels and prizes.

This isn't news. It's their business model.

I like that this is becoming a thing. Of course it would be best if they didn't you know... steal ideas in the first place.

Can someone tell me if the developers of that other Bingo game ever played a game called... what is it? oh yeah... Bingo. I wonder if they ever played that because the similiarities are striking.

The UI definitely looks similar, but c'mon, how different can you make a game like bingo look?

Everyone whining about Zynga needs to shut the hell up. WAAA, they copied my game! THATS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU RELEASE IT.

Holy shit.

It just angers me to think that they are going out of their way to steal money, ideas, and more from small indie devs in order to profit themselves. Zynga are so terrified of original thought and ideas they they beat up the smaller guys, hold them by their ankles and shake them silly until everything in their pockets falls out.

Someone needs to stop Zynga...Now, before they completely squash out hard working small development companies trying to make an honest buck.

Zynga is collapsing in flames. Honestly, if I had some money to invest, I'd sell them short.

I can't decide whether this plagiarism or just following the leader. Either way it seems Zynga is going the way of AOL and MySpace.

I understand that clones have always existed in the industry, and that one man's cloned game is another man's gaming evolution.

...but I have to wonder...

...if the shoe was on the other foot, would Zynga have taken legal action against these blokes by now?

...and if the answer is yes, are they not the biggest bastards in gaming history?

These are the real bad guys not the pirates but the people making a profit out of copy/pasting other peoples work. Taking ideas from other games fine, making games that are quite similar to other games also fine but just copy pasting games with little change and making a profit out of it very very bad.

@BrowneyeWinkin: FarmVille is a a completely rip off a FarmTown.

FarmTown/Ville are not even in the same league as Harvest Moon.

@KwikPwn: They already sued a brazilian company for cloning one of their games. They won. Hope that answers your question.

More of the same from Zynga. There are plenty of OpEds and publications that can confirm the Zynga business model to be one of theft and extortion. Steal the idea, extort players for money. They treat their devs like pieces of shit and throw them away when they burn out under the terrible work conditions.

@twesterm, et al

Take a look at the chart they put together. Clearly there's more going on with this version of Bingo than the one your grandma plays, and Zynga copied it screen for screen.

I completely agree that they look similar but compare those screens to other iPhone game with unlocks, rewards, and player levels and they're all going to look similar.

If it weren't for Zynga's past actions, I wouldn't have much issue with the similarities between the two bingo games.

Yes, the power-ups window, send gifts window, and all the other windows looks similar here. Just like they do with a ton of *other* games. These layouts seem to have become pretty common amongst games in general where you can spend real money.

I've heard bulldog lawyers don't come cheap & Zynga probably has an entire team of them on staff. They all appear at the press of a button, just like Mr. Burns' legal team.
