Right now I don't see myself buying one, but Nintendo has a lot of practice in coming up with fun ways to use multiple screens. I'm curious to see what they'll do here.
Maybe, JUST MAYBE, not everyone likes the same things.
"As for me, I likely won't buy a Wii U, at least based on what I've seen so far."
So, based on conceptial, non-game technical demos, you have decided you aren't likely to buy one?
More power to you, I guess.
Me? I'm going to wait 'till some actual games, running on the actual system are shown, and a price tag is actually announced before I commit to anything.
You know, inform myself first.
To me, anouncing any purchasing plans at this point is nothing but hot air.
Love/Hate you Nintendo.
You're going to keep your Wii U in the toilet? It's better than a three month old men's mag I suppose.
I'm buying one."[/i]
THIS. I'm just a bit mad at Nintendo for Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower, as well as casting core gamers aside. But the thing is pretty sweet.
As far as CliffyB goes, his GDC talk was nothing more than how to be a rockstar, even if that means stirring up bad drama to do it. Do whatever it takes to get in the news and milk your image, according to him.
How about keeping the mouth shut and making good games? Wouldn't that be better for the consumer? Drama gets me nothing. Good games get me something I'm glad I spent money on. I understand how image can relate to media attention, but really....focus on making the great game first.
Sorry if my being a careful consumer offends you, or if I make a preliminary evaluation based on the information that Nintendo themselves have given us. It does, however, seem as though the highly provisional nature of my statement missed your cranial area by at least several inches. It's sort of like a bicycle without a kickstand and only one reflector, but with one of those nice baskets on front.
I'll give them that the Wii had a great first year - maybe a few months after that year was good too. But after that, it was nothing. I'm not falling for it again, especially now that Nintendo of America has this attitude problem that involves telling their hardcore customers to fuck off.
Still have to finish a slew of games including Red Steel 2, Sin & Punishment 2, Little King's Story, more Monster Hunter, more DKR, Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and so on.
I'm just tied enough as it is for the Wii and with what I want for the Wii that I'm just in no darn hurry for a new console. I think I'll be enjoying Wii for awhile before I even get a Wii U.
I mean, I just wrote my opinion on the Wii U potentially not using a universal online account. That right there makes me not want it. I don't care if I can play a game while I'm on the toliet!
And like others have mentioned. There's a good chance that the PS4 and 720 blow it out of the water any way. Devs are whining about hardware levels right now. They're not going to go with the Wii U if Sony and MS up the ante again which leaves it in the dust...like the Wii and it won't be priced competitively enough to bring those non-gamers that bought the Wii. Heck, I don't think most Wii owners care as they're content with what the Wii gave them because they don't game that much most likely.
"Sorry if my being a careful consumer offends you"
You're not being careful; quiet the opposite, you're merely impulsive and fickle.
This doesn't offend me, it just amuses me that someone would try to portent such a knee-jerk reaction as anything other than the posturing it actually is.
Any decision on the Wii U at this point, whether to purchase or ignore it, is pretty much fruitless. It's set on clay at best, given how little we actually now of the damn thing.
But if you feel better calling it "cautious", be my guest.
Actually, I do hope the Wii U succeeds, but that would also lead to more copycat work from MS and Sony... I guess what I really hope is that it succeeds but MS/sony don't rush to copy it. Again. I don't want a controller shaped like that to be playing Halo on.
Those who bought the PS3 hoping for a bevy of RPGs were dumbstruck when they found out the genre migrated to DS, PSP, and 360.
At least a good third of some of the most enjoyable games are from psn, xbox live arcade, and yes even a couple from the wii channel. Also lets not forget about steam.
Sequels to some of our favorite games that have failed financially have been given a second chance on portables, Okami and valkyria chronicles I'm looking at you!
A majority of the best games from square-enix this gen have had neither the word Final nor fantasy in it.
And despite what people say the ios, android, and PC markets have been doing fine if not great for themselves right now.
People say they feel burned by the wii and they should try to give more incentives to third parties. They have done that with Capcom, EA, Sega and Activision. What these companies and others do with the opportunity to develop for the wii is up to them and not Nintendo. Yet I have seen sites where people have literally vilify Microsoft for doing the exact same thing with their system just because the people don't like it or don't own it.
As long as there are good games on a system I will buy it. Maybe not today, tomorrow, at launch date or even when their willing to do a holiday discount but eventually when I get the money I'll buy it.
And you should do the same! /end rant/
Your ability to understand analogies is like a puzzle book that's already been filled out.
Those games were mass market, but Nintendo doesn't want to make games for the mass market, or really for anybody at this point, as evidenced by their reaction to Project Rainfall. Unfortunately, they just want to do whatever they want. And no business gets to stay in business or remain successful by doing that.
Gaming is about content, not technology. All the customer sees is content, and what kind of compelling and exciting content has Nintendo put out lately? Almost none. Their rush to the Wii U is to make concessions to 3rd parties so they can get away with making fewer games and not having to make the kind of games they hate to make. Of course this will just turn out like the Game Cube, with third parties pledging support and then ignoring Nintendo. And of course we got third parties fleeing from the 3DS given how poorly it's performed.
Really there's just a fucking phalanx of reasons why the Wii U is going to bomb that any logical person who has studied the history of gaming (and Nintendo) can see clearly.
For your analogy about analogies to work, your first analogy has to relate to the second analogy by way of a third analogy.
So the only logical step is for me to make an analogy of your analogy about my analogy.
Feel free to follow it with an analogy, but I guarantee it won't work.
If, one year after system launch, I see decent third party original IPs released on the Wii U, I'll consider it. If I see third party IPs IMPORTED from Japan, I'll seriously consider it.
If the next Zelda looks like the best thing ever, and the other two stars are aligned, I'll bite the bullet and buy it all fucking used from Gamestop or eBay.
I just don't see a point in supporting a company that shits on its fanbase and still expects to get paid at the end of the day.
Dude, you're creepy. Get away. This thread is about the Wii U, not about some kind of stalker-ish grudge you have against me. The comments section is full of people saying "NO!" and "YES!" and you get upset because I say "not likely based on what we know now"? Get over it already, you creepy creep.
What are you talking about?
"Nintendo doesn't want to make games for the mass market"
Actually thats wrong because Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Pokemon, Kirby, Wario ware, and Wii Sports have been made. All of them with mass market appeal.
"Gaming is about content, not technology. All the customer sees is content, and what kind of compelling and exciting content has Nintendo put out lately?"
More than PS3 move and Xbox360's Kinect thats for sure. Also without compelling tech why should developers even bother with these first part systems anyway?
"Really there's just a fucking phalanx of reasons why the Wii U is going to bomb that any logical person who has studied the history of gaming (and Nintendo) can see clearly."
So with that logic why can't be the same said for sony and microsoft?
-psn getting hacked
-sony taking away ps3 features
-360 red ring of death
-sony slowly losing exclusives
-360 heading towards the casual market
Vanor just because you hate nintendo does not mean they will fail.
...ok...?
Maybe I missread, but I thought you were joking with that bicicle thing, so I joked along, and was sure you were, too.
Now I see you were just being a jackass.
Sorry for the confusion.
I plan to get one myself no matter what...unless if the launch titles are strong that Iwata promised.
No one, absolutelly no one, has decided if they'll buy the system yet.
Yes, we'll get the early adopters saying it's a "day one" purchase, and yes, we have the knee-jerk reactionary "it will suck/won't buy" comments that we always get.
But think about it for a minute: there are many factors that you can't account on yet.
Even AFTER it launches, and spends a while on the market, the very same people saying they will NOT buy it will constatnly reasess that decision. Every time a game get's anounced that pickes their interest, every time a price cut or bundle is announced, they will rethink if it's a good buy or not.
Some will keep reaching the same conclusion over and over again, but many will change their opinions.
I'll pull a number out of a hat and say that 99% of the people saying they have already made their minds in not buying the system will reconsider it in the next 5 years for sure, unless it bombs like only the Virtual Boy could.
If you really were playing around, then I'm sorry for biting your head off. If you weren't, then I'm not.
What you're saying right now is pretty much what I said in my first post, though. With what I know now, I'm not interested, but I very well know that could change with new information. If Nintendo does do something unexpected, then I'll reevaluate, it's as simple as that. However, I feel like I know enough about Nintendo to make an educated guess about what most of their exclusive games will be.
Also, it's "piques". Not trying to be a dick, just thought you'd want to know.
well and it seems even Cliffy is confused by the functions of the console. The range isn't going to be that far, given the info we've all been given as of yet. So unless Cliffy has a TV his bathroom at stately B manor (which he probably does) or has a toilet in every room (which again, he may just) I don't see him being impressed when he gets it and it won't transmit through the walls.
Beyond that, I get what he's saying about "whats old is sometimes new" but his examples are biting themselves in the ass when each one of these items he's mentioned either didn't do well at all or did well but then went dead for little to no reason. Its not THAT reassuring to be comparing these things together -specially when I've been saying Nintendo's main concern should be customer confidence.
Cool.
Hurray for (mis)comunication!
I didn't mean to sound incisive with my first comment ether. I meant to sound facetious, but I guess that didn't come across well.
