Clifford "Cliffy B" Bleszinski has called out those who wish to pour derision on the Wii U, claiming that they'll all be buying one despite their scorn.
"From what I've seen, it looks pretty cool," he declared. "It seems like you can stream your game from your television directly to your controller, so if you have irritable bowel syndrome, or a small bladder, you can still play it in the toilet.
"That's great. But, you know, from what people are saying online, they're like, 'Oh, it's just a DreamCast, whatever.' But it's like, 'Dude, what's old is new sometimes.' The Power Glove led to the Wii, the Virtual Boy led to the 3DS, right? A lot of these older technologies that you forget about are [the technological predecessors]. The Kinect is a sophisticated webcam, right?
"So I'm just dying to see it. It's Nintendo. I'll buy it. I know I'll buy it. They'll talk sh*t but they'll buy it."
I think the interesting thing about the Wii U is that we just can't call how it'll fare at market. It could be the next Wii or it could be the next GameCube. I'll definitely be picking one up, and I'm eager to see how many others will.
Gears Designer: Nintendo Haters Will 'Talk Sh*t' But Will Still Buy Wii U [Industry Gamers]
I'm buying one.
Of course there's the issue of when the 720/ ps4 come out in a few years, the wii u is once again going to become the underpowered console with nothing but minigames
And that's made of CHEESE!
Except the PC is not dead at all.
I'm afraid that's going to set up another situation in which the nintendo console is either getting skipped for multiplatform games, or getting dumbed down ports. It's for that reason that my Wii has such long periods of time where it sits and gathers dust, and I'm not interested in buying another console that sits and gathers dust 10 months out of the year.
So I mean on the one hand, Cliffy is right in that it looks awesome, but there's some caveats there that will be staying my purchasing hand for a while.
If the Wii U will be just as powerful as todays consoles why would I buy something new to play games on platforms I already own that are just as powerful?
They're basically putting out another mario player and it will sell.
We "core" gamers can all laugh at the casual focus Nintendo has had lately, but there is always a soft spot for Mario and Zelda in any core gamer. And that's why The Wii U will sell.
Dude. That might just be the douchiest comment I've ever read on this site. Congratulations I guess.
But it still looks cool, and I can't wait to play all night without using the TV while my brothers sleep. It;ll be a first and I'll love it forever
"Xbox ghettoboys?"
BACK UP IN YO ASS WITH THE RESURRECTION! ITS THE GROUP HARDER THAN AN ERECTION SHOWING NO AFFECTION! THEY WANNA BAN US ON CAPITAL HILL, CAUSE IT'S DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE MOTHERFUCKER STILLL!
Also on behalf of Nintendo fans everywhere, I would like to apologize mattrodroid's stupidity and emotional immaturity. He does not represent me or other Nintendo fans, and we are ashamed to have to be associated with him.
Most people complain now, nearly 5 years after the Wii's launch, that they haven't been playing it for the last year or two. But look back on it, Wii owners, you played the shit of that the first 2-3 years. There were some fantastic first parties, of course, but there were scores of really great 3rd party titles as well. Also, and you have to admit, it still is kind of fun getting some friends (gamer or non) over and playing WarioWare or Mario Party or Super Mario Bros Wii or whatever else multiplayer game. There really aren't any multiplayer games (at least prior to the Kinnect or Move) on the 360/PS3 to the degree that Wii had. Sure there were plenty of hangers-on [Carnival Games and the ilk], but there was plenty of fun to be had and it still is fun to dust of the Wii for that on occasion.
That being said, I actually had the most fun with the Wii between the 360 and the Wii. Mostly, I tend to play XBLA/Indie games on the 360 [and watch Netflix] since I have been busy with job and wife and new baby, and it being a set-connected box, I play on my laptop more "involved" games. I still play the Wii, albeit little bits here and there. Still plodding through Donkey Kong Country Returns (got it shortly after release, btw) and play virtual console/Wiiware games [admittedly, Virtual Console or Mega Man 9 & 10], but those are more readily picked up, rather than running out to the store and getting Bioshock 2 or Red Dead Redemption [both of which I passed over due to not having the time].
The little screen/playing in the other room I think will be a boon. We have two TVs, but the 360 is upstairs [e.g. if my wife wants to turn in, no 360 time] and the Wii is in the living room [so if she's on the couch watch something or sorting through the mail, etc. so not kicking her out is more of a courtesy thing]. The WiiU would go downstairs [to play/entertain friends], but being able to hole up in the dining room or, since it is on the other side of the wall, the guest room to continue play, that is cool.
Fuck you Nintendo. Had you made your intentions known from the start, I would have waited and bought a Wii... instead I got a Smash Bros. Box.
Their games are just fun... not pretentious and mediocre shit.
There are allot of good games on the wii if your smart enough and know where to look and what to try.
...Oh and there are a few more games for the wii this year than just Zelda, Kirby, and Rhythm Heaven... ...look for them yourselves.
And most of you call yourselves "Hardcore Gamers".... HA!
umad bro?
Why would I buy a system that isn't much cheaper than its competitors, just so I can play a couple of decent games that are buried under a mountain of shit?
Cliffy B (Whose name sounds like a boy band reject) I'm definitely not going to buy it. Does that mean I get to slag it off with impunity?
If I do get it, (which is more unlikely since it can't even serve as a bluray movie player) it will be years down the line, likely used.
Did he figure that out all by himself?!
As for me, I likely won't buy a Wii U, at least based on what I've seen so far. The demos weren't technically impressive, which gives me the suspicion that multi-platform games won't be markedly better on the Wii U, and I have very little interest in platformers, which leaves out a significant portion of Nintendo's biggest titles.
Also, didn't someone from Nintendo hint that the range of the controller might not allow you to play a game in another part of the house? I remember a "the controller and console are designed to be in the same room" comment.
I will buy it because I love Nintendo IPs and no doubt about it the system will receive some new ones. For now it will be just like the Wii to me, a handful of games will make me buy it.
But I'm still skeptical. The 3DS launch was nowhere near to the initial presentation on E3, but I really hope they get it right this time.
"I didn't buy the wii, and I'm not going to buy this. I don't understand how that's so hard to fathom."
You should look up the word "generalities" in a dictionary.
I'm getting Wii U, I mean, its Nintendo, after all.
If Cliffy is in favor of it, though, that just means it runs his Unreal engines like he wants them to. Anytime Epic can license out the Unreal Engine more is a good day for Cliffy.
