Split-screen gaming is going the way of the Dodo, which is a bird that is now extinct (Why did I feel the need to explain that?) Split-screen co-op is even rarer, and yet playing a game with a good friend right next to you instead of on the other side of the country is one of the best experiences in gaming. If you're sad to see this once proud standard of the gaming industry slowly die you'll be happy to hear that the producers of Lost Planet 2 are doing all that they can to bring split-screen co-op to the game.

Speaking with Joystiq producer Jun Takeuchi said, "We are actually working on two-player split-screen. It's not easy, but if we are confident that we can do it, we'll let you know." After being asked if the split-screen would work like RE5's did, and if figuring out how it would work visually was the issue Takeuchi replied that it wasn't the aspect ratio that was the problem, but technical difficulties. "Technically, cycling between two split screens, you can actually say it took visual RAM," he said. "You still have to work with two sets of AI and physics and so forth at the same time,"  he said.

Step one will be to get this into the game, and that's entirely up to them. Step two will be to find a friend, and that's all up to you, but we can help a little.

Now why is split screen gaming disappearing?

It's very popular, and it's probably the reason Halo 3 is the best party game on the Xbox 360.

Oh good! We were wondering about that.

Colette and I always hit the NES for the best local co-op :)

More pertinently, why did you feel the need to capitalize it?

I just played Watchmen on split screen last night :D
Would be nice if we can have it on LP2 :)

It's true that full screen local multiplayer like smash brothers , contra or Spyro is getting hard to find these days.(except for some disney or some 3D animated movie tie-in games,i guess)Kung Fu Panda multiplayer's not bad though.

Me and a bunch of friends get together pretty often and link 2 Gamecubes together to play 8 player Mario Kart: Double Dash. It's definitely one of the best gaming experiences out there.

That's good, because my little whiny brother usually demands I play a game with local multiplayer whenever he's around, so I generally can't do what I want, and our local multiplayer games are getting pretty boring because my brother is both terrible at video games and a sore loser, to the point where he once broke one of our controllers when I shut him out in a game of one-on-one Halo 3.

I remember playing co-op with my brother and sister, it was the best gaming experience I had, playing Mario, Mortal Kombat (Especially Mortal Kombat). Good times. I would like to see more split-screen co-op on the Xbox (not that there aren't good co-op games), it is a technical challenge, but even at the cost of image quality, there is nothing quite like social gaming.

I was so disappointed today when I downloaded the demo and found out there was no local co op. So instead of playing we saw district 9 instead. Nice gravity gun.

Hell yeah.

The best times I've had on my 360 have been playing co-op with my brother on any co-op game we could get. I'm happy they're including it, now it's a definite purchase.

it was at least a couple days before i figured that RE5 had SS co-op cause the manual didn't even mention it. i hope they make more a big deal out of it this time.
