Split-screen gaming is going the way of the Dodo, which is a bird that is now extinct (Why did I feel the need to explain that?) Split-screen co-op is even rarer, and yet playing a game with a good friend right next to you instead of on the other side of the country is one of the best experiences in gaming. If you're sad to see this once proud standard of the gaming industry slowly die you'll be happy to hear that the producers of Lost Planet 2 are doing all that they can to bring split-screen co-op to the game.
Speaking with Joystiq producer Jun Takeuchi said, "We are actually working on two-player split-screen. It's not easy, but if we are confident that we can do it, we'll let you know." After being asked if the split-screen would work like RE5's did, and if figuring out how it would work visually was the issue Takeuchi replied that it wasn't the aspect ratio that was the problem, but technical difficulties. "Technically, cycling between two split screens, you can actually say it took visual RAM," he said. "You still have to work with two sets of AI and physics and so forth at the same time," he said.
Step one will be to get this into the game, and that's entirely up to them. Step two will be to find a friend, and that's all up to you, but we can help a little.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It's very popular, and it's probably the reason Halo 3 is the best party game on the Xbox 360.
Colette and I always hit the NES for the best local co-op :)
Would be nice if we can have it on LP2 :)
It's true that full screen local multiplayer like smash brothers , contra or Spyro is getting hard to find these days.(except for some disney or some 3D animated movie tie-in games,i guess)Kung Fu Panda multiplayer's not bad though.
And my family doesn't come round no more, not since I turned my the bath into a communal pool for the cockroaches!
WAAH!
The best times I've had on my 360 have been playing co-op with my brother on any co-op game we could get. I'm happy they're including it, now it's a definite purchase.
