Clay + Fighting + Virtual Console = Jizz photo

Back in the 90's there was a brief explosion of games that used claymation. It was awesome. Anyone who lived through that era can tell you that playing a claymation videogame is sweet. In fact if you haven't played The Neverhood I would suggest taking off your gamer badge and turning it in to your local chief of gamer police. Also released in this spurt of clay gaming glory was ClayFighter, a cartoony fighting game that rocked many clay socks.

I haven't played this game in years as it really is one of those fighters that is good, but not so great you bust it out regularly to relive the memories. However, that could all change as the ESRB has listed the game for the Virtual Console. If you've never gotten a chance with the game it's worth a download if it actually does come out as it is by far one of the most creative fighters ever made as far as artistic style goes -- fighting wise it's basically Street Fighter in clay. If you want to get irrationally excited then let's all hope that this means the struggling Interplay is hoping claymation gaming will once again bring it top sellers as it did in the 90s with ClayFighter and the Claymates series and is thus planning an all claymation line-up.

From what I remember this game was NOTHING like street fighter.. The controls were sluggish. Even when the game came out in the 90's I wasn't a huge fan, it was funny being clay elvis and hitting them with my pomp but beyond then.. meh

Oy. Helga, Boogerman and Earthworm Jim were my favorites. Still the razor move of the green dude was motherfucking cheap.

This was my first tourney game ever. I played it in the Blockbuster Championships when I was a kid- anyone remember?! :D

Jim was doing a series for a while there called "Awfully Awesome".

I think that sums up ClayFighter in a nutshell.

Wow, the people behind Fallout and Fallout 2 were involved with this game. I never knew that.

Also Clayfighter was slow as hell and the wonky controls made it close to unplayable. But it did have two good things, the music was rad and the character selection was interesting to say the least. I always did like Bad Mr. Frosty's character design.

I still have the Snes cartridges for Clayfighter and its sequel.
The original game's intro music is awesome.

The sequel is pretty bad and is very hard to beat. On the bright side, it has some cool new characters.

Sluggish controls wouldn't let me enjoy this.

The Neverhood was amazing.

Great gameplay, hilarious story, memorable characters, and FANTASTIC music. I tracked down the artist that made all the songs from The Neverhood and SkullMonkeys and bought his CD.

Greatest.

CD.

Everything about this game is great, The final boss is called N. Boss. Oh, and Blob > all.

I'd like to see a new Clayfighter game.

Never played this one but I can't say I liked Clayfighter 63 1/3. So not to excited for this one.

I have a copy of this game sitting in a bin somewhere under my bed and I can assure you that it is not a good game. The overall presentation is good--great audio, interesting visuals, and just the right amount of quirkiness. However, that's all flushed down the shitter when you try to actually play the game.

I'm sure it will be priced at $6, which is probably too much for this title, unless you are really curious to try it out.

Also, your math doesn't make any sense at all; you can't produce jizz without Kevin Costner being somewhere in the equation. Look it up.

Seriously guys, don't let nostalgia blind you. This game is horrible. Maybe good for a few chuckles, but nothing worth wasting money over.

Ehh... Make it Clayfighters 63⅓, then we're talkin'. That was the penultimate fighting game parody of its time.

Some games are so terrible; they're great.

Awesomely bad games I call them.

And there are a lot of awesomely bad games out there, even good games can be awesomely bad when you stop to think about them.

Strangely accurate, my most solid memories of this game are from the Blockbuster tournaments.

The Genesis/Mega Drive version is out in Europe. God only knows why they went with that one over the SNES version- it lacks the title song and the sound in general is shittier.

I was a fan of ClayFighter back then, but I feel like it's totally a case of retro goggles. ClayMates was pretty awesome, and I'm not sure about that one.

This was probably one of my favourites as a kid. I rented this so many times and played at friends' houses. I'm not sure if I would still like it but I would definitely consider buying it if/when its released for the virtual console.
