Classic songs from The Offspring 'coming soon' to Rock Band photo

This week’s new Rock Band DLC features four songs: Avenged Sevenfold’s “Afterlife” and “Critical Acclaim”; “Hammerhead”, The Offspring’s first single from their newly released album, Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace; and “Rock N Roll Dream” by Crooked X, a band that neither I nor Wikipedia have heard of. The first three songs are priced at $1.99 (160 MS Points) each, while the last song is selling for $0.99 (80 MS Points).

Now, we’ve got word -- from The Offspring’s official Web site -- that more songs from the punk rockers will soon be making their way to Rock Band. Here’s the list, straight from the news update:

“Come Out And Play [Keep ‘Em Separated]“
“Self Esteem“
“Gone Away“
“All I Want“
“Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)“
&
”The Kids Aren‘t Alright

As a big fan of The Offspring’s earlier stuff (“Hit That” from 2003’s Splinter turned me off to them for a while), this makes me very happy. Pretty much all of the above tracks are well-known classics from the band, and “The Kids Aren’t Alright” specifically is one of my all-time favorite Offspring songs. And I know that at least one other community member, Dexter345, will be excited to hear about this (see fourth comment) as well.

What do the rest of you guys think? All I can say is this: assuming that those songs are coming in a ten-dollar six-pack, à la the must-download Boston pack, I will be throwing down a Hamilton as soon as the songs hit the PlayStation Store.

I am most definitely getting it. The Offspring are one of those bands that you just have to get onto Rock Band.

Fuck yes, they won't be that hard, but these are going to be so fun to play! The Kids Aren't Alright would make my day on its own, but the other ones...god, best track I've heard of in a while. Jimmy Buffet can go fuck himself.

Awesome. These are their actual GOOD songs.

And I'm going to make an effort to end every comment with "Jimmy Buffet can go fuck himself."

You know me too well, Samit. I'll totally drop ten bucks on those six songs. The only one that is kind of annoying is Pretty Fly, but I imagine it would still be fun to sing and play.

You know, I am sort of surprised how much dislike for the Buffet Pack gets here.

I know there a lot of Rock Band fans that actually like the Buffet pack especially the Expert-level players who think that the note charts are well done and fun to play.

Also, fact: I picked the name Dexter partly due to admiration of the Offspring's lead singer, "Dexter" Holland.

Man, that's a pretty decent selection of their catalog. As a super short song, All I want would make a good one rock out to.

I was raised on Offspring.
If I happened to own Rockband I would probably be more excited by it.

'Session' would be fun, or maybe just the starting vocals.

Will they be censoring the cuss words? Cuz that could be a dealbreaker for me after the lameness that was Fallout Boys This aint a song crap.

AKK at 06/19/2008 09:08
Yeah, it'll be censored. The Avenged Sevenfold stuff was censored, and it was really obvious in that song, considering he swears quite a bit in Critical Acclaim. It's not so bad in Afterlife.

I was hoping for some more Offspring tracks after hearing their new single is coming out but I didn't think they'd release Gone Away! Shame there's no "Meaning of Life" or "She's got issues" but still... DO WANT!!

Ugh... rockbands latest releases have been pretty poor as of late...might as well bring out Patio Lanterns by Kim Mitchell for gods sake.... I mean come on Offspring? Yeah its all right to listen to while drinkin at a Trailer Park but it's not that challenging for it to be in rockband...blech.

Can't we see something a little less inspired by money and popularity? And a little more about the gameplay aspect? I'm not saying obscure, just a little more interesting and a little more challenging. How about some Primus? That might be fun. Or some Alice In Chains? Or maybe Tool? Imagine how fun that would be to try and play on the drums!.... Opeth? That would be crazy! Or just release a tool to make these songs on Xbox Live so I can stop whining already ;)

YES YES YES. I have been aching for this ever since that bad April Fool's joke sent me drooling. I love the Offspring, especially the songs featured here. NVM that they risk being easy, at least they'll be something I know off DLC
