A new StarCraft and a new Civilization in the same year? This is, indeed, a ridiculously good time to own a capable gaming PC. And you know what? I haven't heard anyone make the recurring "PC gaming is dead" claim in, like, a whole month. That's got to be some kind of record.
We don't tend to dip into box art territory unless it's a particularly slow news day; today is one of those days, thanks to the aforementioned Blizzard game. But, I feel like this cover art for Civilization V is particularly noteworthy in that it's good, for once.
The art conveys what Civilization is about, and what makes it so fun: having an overpowered, technologically advanced army obliterate troops who have primitive weapons. September 21, launch day, isn't too far off. We should be able to wait it out without resorting to cryogenic freezing.

Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied:
"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
If the game actually looked photo real like that I'd buy it.
PC GAMING ITS DEAHT!!!!11!!
there you go.
Anyway. Cannot wait for V. Already pre-ordered. Playing the shit out of Beyond the Sword until I can consummate my marriage with Sid Meier's latest progeny.
As for the vitality of PC Gaming is concerned.... there's also the entire market share that is RTS. Blizzard alone holds a massive share of the gamer market with games that cannot and probably will never be successful on consoles and that doesn't even take into consideration any of the Civ or Total War games
I don't think I will ever like a Sid Meier game as much as I liked Alpha Centauri, but Civ V could come close to that. VERY close.
I guess it could just be a matter of preference for me, but I really prefer simple box art. If they can make something simple, but get an idea or feeling across it works much better. The Left 4 Dead box art is probably the best ever made. It doesn't give you any information on the game at all except for the title and the simple depiction of a zombie hand holding up 4 fingers.
This Civ V box art has archers, artillery, cavalry, catapults, soldiers, a giant boat, a factory, some world monuments, and future cities. That shit is confusing. Even Civilization Revolution had better box art. With that game it showed world leaders looking over a globe. That conveyed the idea of taking command of a civilization with the goal of taking over the world.
And I too shall play the shit out of this game.

Figure that one out fanboys.
