Civilization V Game of the Year Edition released photo

It doesn't take a games industry analyst -- or even a marginally gifted psychic, for that matter --- to see this one coming. 2K Games has finally released Sid Meier's Civilization V Game of the Year Edition to the waiting masses.

Along with the standalone game, this version also includes downloadable content that 2K has slowly been trickling down to Civilization V fans for a year. It includes: four "Cradle of Civilization" Map Packs, Explorer's Map Pack, Civilization and Scenario Packs for The Mongols, Spain, Inca, Polynesia and the Vikings; as well as the Civilization Pack for Babylon. On top of all that, you also get a digital copy of the original soundtrack.

All of this content and more can be yours, paragon of peace or war monger, for the price of $49.99! Considering all of the content that is included in this pack, if you were ever thinking about picking up Civilization V, now would be the time to do it.

And devs wonder why people don't like paying $60 for a game. Why buy the game when it first comes out and still have to buy the DLC, or wait about a year and get the eventual **insert random edition here** and get the entire thing for the same price?

Why do I buy games day 1 again?

@KilvasKills So that you can enjoy them for longer than people who buy GoTY's do.

Not shabby, considering that all the DLC itself costs $49.

Unfortunately, I'm one of the chumps who bought the game originally. Where's my bundle? I just want all the flippin' extra civs!

The real time you should get this game is during the steam holiday sale when it will inevitably be at least 40% off during a daily deal.

Steam just had a sale with the DLC for like $30 a few weeks ago

It's missing the Korea and World Wonders DLC. So I guess it isn't the full GotY edition after all, if you still have to pay for extra DLC if you want the full experience.

$50 is a really good price for this. I bought the main game for full price and haven't regretted it since.

$50 in US, $90 in Australia, on the same digital distrubution platform, when the aus dollar is worth MORE than the US dollar. Fucking wonderful.

Firaxis DLC has been really shitty for CIV5. I want CIV4 style expansion packs, not this lame overpriced map bullshit.

Considering this game is still a broken buggy piece of shit for a lot of this i may not be worth any price. Read the steam forums and buyer beware.

So if we have a GOTY edition, does that mean they're dropping support for Civ V just after a year from its release, and still broken in gameplay? Unbelievable.

Sid Meier could also do with fixing his Railroads game on Steam, which requires a manual patch of the .exe file to stop it crashing on Vista. It's still for sale in the broken state.
