Cities XL available on October 9 photo

Monte Cristo has revealed that its massive sim, Cities XL, will release in North America on October 9.

The game will be available as a digital download, including services Steam, Direct2Drive, Trygames, Impulse, and Gametap. So you have options. While it sounds like there will be no version available at retail, you can mail order a boxed copy if you live in the United States or Canada... free shipping!

Based on what Monte Cristo has said about Cities XL, it looks like it's the sim game to end all sim games, with single player and MMO elements that boggle my mind. I recently upgraded to a new laptop capable of light PC gaming, so this is actually an option for me now. I didn't participate in the beta, so I have to ask -- what does everyone think?

As a fan of Sim City since the commodore Amiga incarnation, this games feels like the future.

I'm looking forward to this. Hope the hardware req's wont be too high, I have a very weak graphics card.

I did participate in the beta (I can say that, right? Haha, I never know). And I enjoyed it, pretty thoroughly. I liked the "online" spin the game has and the potential I saw there. I won't go into actual specific details, but I do plan to pick this title up.

Wow, this is the first time I've heard of this. Sounds great though.

It was overwhelming to me, I like simpler sims like RCT, but it should be fun for serious fans.

I've taken the vow of silence after signing up for the beta (thanks dtoid!), but I can say I'm really looking forward to October 9th.

I played the beta, and the game is seriously lacking compared to Simcity 4.

Cities are much prettier and easier to build, but the simulation is really simple.
