Church attacks Resident Evil, Capcom fights back photo

Thank God for the clergy! Those guardians of our frail humanity are always here to set things right, and they have protected us from Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, a game that glamorizes violence and promotes the occult. Several men of the Church have attacked Capcom's latest Wii shooter, because that is exactly what the Church should be worrying about.

"If we dabble in this area we open ourselves to influences and put ourselves at risk," writes Rt Rev John Goddard. "I would regard any encouragement for children to be drawn into this behavior with extreme horror."

Capcom's Leo Tan, however, has not taken such accusations lying down: "Most games (and movies) like Resident Evil show characters fighting evil, not supporting it. Unfortunately the clergy is showing a lack of understanding of the video games industry and is too quick to splash the holy water and lump video games players into stereotypical boxes.

"Video games are entertainment and like horror movies or other scary films they are covered by a ratings system. Resident Evil for example is a 15 and not suitable for anyone under that age. Parents have to be trusted to adhere to these age restrictions and use common sense."

Pretty much.

Still, it's nice to know that Holy leaders responsible for the guidance of hundreds of people are so enlightened and have such a grasp of the modern world, isn't it? They clearly make people take IQ tests to be bishops.

Why Resident Evil? Compared with games like Prototype Resident Evil is pretty tame.

I agree, children shouldn't be playing Resident Evil. They should be reading the Bible so they can learn decent moral values like stoning rebellious children to death(Deuteronomy 21:18-21) and that it's okay to rape a woman as long as you marry her(Deuteronomy 22:28-29).

If a child does play Resident Evil, it's important that they repent by sacrificing an animal, since the smell of burnt flesh is pleasing to God(Exodus 29:18). If you insist on continuing to play Resident Evil, then God may try to strike you down. You'll be safe as long as you have a chariot of iron, which is God's one weakness(Judges 1:19).

Why the hypocrisy? Not even five articles down you're ragging on a Christian game, lambasting it for being a religious game, but here we are, and you're calling the Church out for being misinformed and narrow-minded about video games? A little thick in here isn't it?

I'm not a Viva Pinata fan, but I have to admit there must be a demographic for it out there. Let's not bag on a game we know nothing about, then turn around and get offended when someone does it to us, eh?

Besides, you don't have to be religious to stereotype games, they're just the latest to jump on the bandwagon. Keep them away from MW2!

I'd rather parents and kids decice what's best for them and what to play, than leave kids in you care at church, bunch o' bloody fiddlers o' kids. Stop trying to lead people. You had your chance and blew it.

Props to Capcom for reacting quickly to this. :O)

As a Christian, I would warn my kids about the occult early on in life, then when they grow up, I'd let them play whatever videogames they like. Then they are already safe in the knowledge that they won't practise anything IRL what they are playing, and that they won't be forced to think that their Christian guardians are being restrictive and stuck-up.

So many Idiots so little time to comment at them all. Every one focus on all the negative of an organization they blame the actions of a few on the many of the organization. they blame all the crap that they hear in the news on the whole of the organization.

They never consider all the good that these people do. They never consider what the world would be like if they did not exist. I tell you a world without religion would be a good thing their would be no religious zealotry however such a world would not be something to be discussed in polite conversation. How much of our sense of whats right and moral has been influenced by religion?

People have done evil things in the name of religion but what of these people who committed the acts? They are mislead by tyrants or they are tyrants themselves and a tyrant will always find pretext for his tyranny. Then their is the other side zealotry. Advancing the churches goals with an iron fist under the name of god.

What of the rest of the world their are men who without religion have done evil things far worse then what the church has done and these people are not hated nearly as much as the church.

So basically Im saying your all guilty of being an idiot your all guilty of being thick headed your all guilty of being oppressive and if you think your not well that just means you have a double dose of idiocy in you.

None of our sense of what's right or moral comes from religion. Morality is based on the general consensus of what's considered to be in the best interest of the progress of a particular culture. I know I don't want to be murdered, so I don't murder other people, and they don't murder me. This rule is enforced by society punishing anyone who breaks it.

I don't what your particular religious views are, but if you take the time to research what your religion teaches as being moral and immoral, I'm willing to bet that your morals are inconsistent with those of your religion.

....and you have the balls to accuse othe people of using strawman arguments? Aren't you tired of preaching to the choir yet? How many of these tired-ass "violence in video games" articles do you do a week now?

I'm not necessarily on the side of the people complaining about violence in games, (at least not in every case) I'm just saying that this is another example of Jim being a shitty hack of a writer, re-using the same topic over and over because he can't write real articles.

Basically what I'm trying to say is Jim Sterling is a fucking idiot.

The church out of all institutions is the last one with any right to talk about hurting children because as i remember they still to this day cover for pedophile priest merely to not throw mud on their image. Don't get me wrong, I'm a devout christian, just not a mindless church sheep.
