Christian Bale in the running to play Solid Snake? photo

If anyone is going to try and pull off Snake's deep and gruff voice, Christian Bale is the man to do it. Word is, the new issue of Nuts magazine (it's a U.K. magazine -- blame the brits for the funny name), there's an interview with the Batman himself, in which he mentions that he's gunning for the role of Solid Snake in the upcoming, and hopefully Uwe Boll-less, film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid.

Can the Dark Knight also be the man in the cardboard box? Christian Bale has taken on some seriously challenging phyiscal roles (see The Machinist), so the role of Solid Snake is easily something within his grasp. Let's start the rampant speculation now! Who would be your ideal Metal Gear Solid cast, readers?

While you're busy doing that, we'll lock Dave Houghton in a cage until the new issue of Nuts is released, so he can give us all the juicy details.

My second choice for Meryl, would be Kari Matchett (Invasion,24).

If it's not Hayter's voice, it's not snake. I'm sorry, but it's just not.

I personally don't think a MGS movie should be made, if for no other reason than I don't think they'll end up disappointing a lot of people. As Houghton said, the games are damn near movies as it is, and, as fanboy as it makes me sound, I just don't think it'll have the same impact (no matter who is attached).

Kurt Russel is Snake, Snake is Kurt Russel. Period! Snake was based on Kurt Russel's character, Snake Plissken, from the "Escape From" movies. Hell, in MGS2 he's goes by the name Plissken as sort of a homage to what inspired the creation of Snake.

I don't care how old he is, Kurt Russel should be Snake and he's even got a voice similar to the one Snake has. How do you think they came to the one he has now? It sounded close to how Kurt Russel sounded in those movies.

Bale would be great if it was a young snake, if it were based on the upcoming old snake, Bruce Willis would be my choice. Remember people the film would be an ADAPTATION of the video game, if you want to see Hayter play snake then just play the games, its basically a movie anyway. No matter how much you would love to see a direct game to film it won't happen. For us it would be great, but the VAST majority of the movie going public hasn't even heard of what we are talking about here. And to make money you have to make it appeal to more people. They know the hardcore gamers will most likely go see it anyway.

I dunno, guys... a Merol Gear Movie? Kojima makes 2 hour cutscenes, so I donīt think a 2 hour movie would be ok.

Mxyzptlk is right. Besides, Cate Blanchett plays Bob Dylan in a new movie so why can't Leigh play Solid Snake? It's only fair!

Anyway, I think Christian Bale would make an excellent Solid Snake. I also think that a MGS movie is unnecessary, but I would watch it if it came out.

Why do you guys want that old bogey Kurt Russel as Snake in Metal Gear? Not only would it throw off Escape from New York/LA fans, but it'd just be BAD. He can't do anything anymore, because he's old and stuff.

Americans have probably never seen this. David Hayter doing Snake presenting a videogame award.

Now I LOVE Hayter, but he would have to do a hell of a lot of physical training to have the presence required for the movie. Hayter's a busy guy to boot (and he cut his hair!). Bale is a fantastic actor and is one of the few people out there who could do Snake justice, so I'm for Bale all the way.

Kurt Russell, no question. Otherwise, David Hayter. However, Bale wouldnt be a bad snake, and realistically Kurt is too old, and Hayter isnt well known enough.

Why would you not want to make an MGS film? Possibly more than any other game, MGS has the real world come sci-fi vibe in story that you only see in films like James Bond (one of its influences). Bond has no true predator in film stakes, so MGS would be a great attempt for its crown.

The fact the games have a lot of cut scenes, just plays more in its favour for the big screen treatment. Imagine the film if it was in full CG like Advent Children, if not full live action. With a new Rambo flick out soon, it makes even more sense.

If Transformers could work, I'm damn sure MGS could, with the right people and script.

Metal Gear movie done correctly sounds like pure movie bullseye. Christian Bale is a step in the right direction. I just wonder what the hell the plot would be like. Would it be a remake of Metal Gear Solid? Or Snake Eater? (Let's all forget MGS2 every happened ok?)

After having just watched shoot em up I think Clive Owen would make a good Snake. He'd need to try to work out his accent... maybe just have Dave Hayter do the voice over top or somethin'.

K if I hear one more person say that they want Hayter's voice to be DUBBED in I'm going to have a freaking anurism. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A DUBBED MOVIE??? It would be COMPLETE cheesy crap. Hayter should be out of the question he's a voice actor and having some kind of acting experience doesn't make you a GOOD actor.
Finally it's going to be a REAL people we can't have them sounding like videogame characters /w their cartoony voices. The voices were great and very appropriate for game but we need them to sound like REAL people now.
