Christian Bale in the running to play Solid Snake? photo

If anyone is going to try and pull off Snake's deep and gruff voice, Christian Bale is the man to do it. Word is, the new issue of Nuts magazine (it's a U.K. magazine -- blame the brits for the funny name), there's an interview with the Batman himself, in which he mentions that he's gunning for the role of Solid Snake in the upcoming, and hopefully Uwe Boll-less, film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid.

Can the Dark Knight also be the man in the cardboard box? Christian Bale has taken on some seriously challenging phyiscal roles (see The Machinist), so the role of Solid Snake is easily something within his grasp. Let's start the rampant speculation now! Who would be your ideal Metal Gear Solid cast, readers?

While you're busy doing that, we'll lock Dave Houghton in a cage until the new issue of Nuts is released, so he can give us all the juicy details.

Kurt Russel. He's old, but he's still Snake.

@BlackDove: YES.

(and just in case some of you didn't know) - No, really, he played Snake Plissken in Escape from New York, so there you go.

Would be fine, but they need David Hayater overdubbing the original voice from the games.

David Hayter would be the best imo, he isn't completely out of touch from the series or movies in general. He could look the part with some hollywood magic.

If David Hayter isn't dubbing whoever plays snake it isn't worth watching.

This film is the least necessary videogame-to-film translation ever. The games practically are movies already.

Whatever, it'll be a mediocre affair anyway.

As much has Hayter = Snake's voice, I wouldn't want Bale dubbed. He's a good actor and that's kind of an insult to his ability (it's not like there's a language barrier or anything). A nice cameo from Hayter doing the voice would be enough for me, just to hear it coming out of theater speakers.

@ Trev

Part of why I love MGS is because of how Solid Snake sounds. His voice is unlike many other voices you have heard. I don't mean to insult Bale, I think he'd be a great Snake, but to not include the original voice would kinda suck.

Christian Bale would be perfect for Snake. Bale's flexibility in his acting is what makes him extraordinary. He can go from a psychotic killer to a heroic cowboy, a 70 pound industrial worker losing his sanity to a billionaire playboy wearing a mask and cape.

Bale would be cool. I'm not to into Metal Gear, but from the things I've seen him in (mostly Batman) I think the guy can handle it. I mean, he was the lead character of the best Batman movie since the Tim Burton films.

Yeah. Cheeeeeeeeeedah!

The actor is important but I rather have a great director do the movie with a good script. Due to seeing all those video games to movie adaptation I am hoping this does not turn out to be like the rest. But yea Christian Bale ftw!

As much man-love I have for Bale, never saw it coming that he'd be somehow tied to this. I think that statement alone makes it exciting, because he's NEVER the obvious choice for anything. He just turns in quality performances film to film.

NEWSIES, FTW!!!

Over dubbing? That's kinda ridiculous. If anyone demands that much from the games, they might as well skip the movie whoever plays it.

Yep, Bale's a good choice. He's got pedigree, versatility, always entertaining. Has he actually been in a bad film? He's come a long way since Empire of the Sun in 1987, and does Blighty proud.

Leigh, its cool that you dig the Bale, but as soon as he hears you been watching Nightshift Nurses, he's gonna walk the other way. Lol.

Hentai can be bizarre but strange crack (oh, that's a funny joke). I'll stop picking Leigh, time out.

Me and some friends were talkin about who could play Snake in a movie a while back and I brought up Bale to unanimous approval. This puts a smile on my face, but the thought of Uwe Boll being anywhere near it makes me cringe.

I think Bale as Snake is possibly the best video game movie related news ever. If they pull it off so that it's awesome, it could do for video game movies what Spider-Man did for comic book movies.

Of course, a lot of decent franchises have already been shat on... *cough*Resident Evil*cough.
