When EA Sports put up the Madden NFL 11 cover for voting, it was pretty obvious that neither Reggie Wayne nor Jared Allen had any real chance of winning over Super Bowl XLIV MVP Drew Brees. This time around, the field is wide open: EA is letting you vote on 32 potential Madden NFL 12 cover candidates, one from each NFL team. Voting will take place on the website for ESPN's SportsNation, which airs weekdays at 4 PM ET on ESPN2 and will be conducting interviews with the candidates throughout the voting period.
The athletes have been placed into a seeded bracket -- the top seeds for the NFC and AFC are Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers, respectively -- and each of the 16 matchups pits divisional rivals against each other. Rodgers faces Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh; Brees is up against QB Josh Freeman of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Dallas Cowboys LB DeMarcus Ware will try to take down Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick.
Voting begins today; each round will last for approximately one week, with the final showdown coming during the week of April 18-26. SportsNation will reveal the winner live on its April 27th broadcast.
Which NFL star will you choose? Head over to www.ESPN.com/MaddenVote to cast your vote.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And it's a shame that the only Patriot on there is Woodhead.
Ah well, one is better than none.
I think Aaron Rodgers deserves it, though.
What I meant was that it was a shame that Woodhead was the selected Patriot for this.
Still though, Woodhead did pretty decent.
Wouldn't have minded seeing Welker or Green-Ellis
Not Vick, let's get this guy to the top,
DeMarcus.
Also, SPOOOOOORTZ?!

(But wait... if there's a lockout next year, does that mean the Curse will pass over this year's winner and instead attack next year's cover athlete? Or can we expect some freak weight room accident to claim Rodgers' knees?)

Aside from playing badly, which is nothing different from last year.
Losing to a 7-9 team in the playoffs doesn't count?
Heh, that was quite a game.
I wouldn't put that entirely on Drew Brees, though.
Yeah, he could have played better, but their defense seemed to not be all the way there.
Carmine must die/Let Carmine live.
Pretty much the same things as voting for someone to the cover of a Madden game.
Though the best cover, to illustrate the whole idea of team, would be to have at least a few teammates on there. They haven't really done that before.
Brees didn't really get cursed so much as the rest of his team did. It seemed like half the team was injured, including at one point ALL of their starting secondary over the season and some into the playoffs. It didn't help that Bress had some bad games, but Brees lit up the scoreboard in the playoffs...except the Saints defense just wasn't there. I think the Saints will be much better this year (or whenever they play again,) but they'll still have to fight, because a number of NFC teams are getting better.
