I bought gold in WoW once a few years ago. I was new to the game and didn't understand what I was doing. It was stupid and wrong and I regret it now that I know how that gold is obtained (it's just as often stolen from the hacked accounts of legitimate gamers who earned it) and the harm that it does.

So, the prisoners are forced to go through all of the hard labor that goes with the MMORPG loot grind but they personally reap none of the benefits of said grinding?

@Robert: Because free market capitalism involves free and voluntary choices for all parties involved? This is not much different from slave labor. Many of the original African slaves in Britain were prisoners of their native countries. These kinds of things in prison are also a problem in America.
This sort of situation is like what "bustaball" said. I wouldn't say this has anything to do with their political outlook since they don't even follow it themselves nowadays (They are practically capitalists if you've been there and or even worked with them).
You have to remember there is alot of control on media in the World. This leaks out about China and it ends up like propaganda honestly. Hardly any of the horror stories you hear about exploitation of people and under the money dealings with the Western government because there is alot of prominent people in power in this world doing information control and keeping the media in the pocket - However with internet, as you can see, its getting harder to control by the "old methods".
In anycase its of course wrong this, but it will take alot of social reform on part of its government, not the people, before this ever changes. For now just imagine the hard-ships of say what the North Korean citizens have to endure everyday with a dickhead leader like Kim Jong-Il (and his soon to be heir son) and how they are exploiting their people everyday.

It used to be a favorite past time of my guild to gank suspected gold farmers. We always joked that we were preventing them from feeding their families or making their rent on time. But getting corporal punishment for not making quota - that is a new lol.
