Chinese couple sell their kids to pay for MMO habit photo

In a story that has left me with my jaw literally hanging open, two parents have been apprehended by Chinese authorities after it transpired they sold their three children to fund their MMO habit.

Li Lin and Li Juan sold their baby daughter for roughly $500, their first son for around $4600, and their second son for the same price. Li Lin's mother contacted officials after she had found out what happened, and the couple was taken into custody.

According to reports, the couple didn't know that selling babies so they could play computer games was illegal. In a country where political prisoners are forced into MMO gold-farming labor, it's hard to distinguish the lines, I guess.

 "We don’t want to raise them, we just want to sell them for some money," said the couple, when asked if they missed them. To be fair, you can't fault them for their honesty.

If they cared this little about the sprogs, I'm surprised they didn't try to sell the little girl for her organs. Some people, I swear... :/

Today is not a good day for video games being fairly represented in the media.

And the people that bought them only want to harvest their organs so as to not only recoup on their investment but actually profit by a healthy margin as well. I don't know why people call it "Communist China." That's about as Capitalist as you can get!!

@rexwolf2

Give it a bit. Someone's going to blame cheating on their girlfriend on Catherine next, and then it's going to finish with killing themselves because Persona told them to do it.

*sigh*

Big deal, children are sold all over the world everyday. This is news just because it has to do with video games? Nonsense. This should always be a big deal frankly, but no one seems to care unless its related in someway to something they do care about.

Lets all save the children!

Hmmm... well I guess it's better than pulling a Casey Anthony. (and I guess it's also a good thing that Casey didn't play video games).

Sure, she was found "not guilty"... and does anyone really believe that? Your kid is missing for a month and you don't bother mentioning it to anyone and you're busy out partying it up? Meh... selling the kids sounds like a better parental decision than the abuse (or worst) that other people with addictions/issues do.

@meteorscrap - Altus games don't sell high enough to get the media in a frenzy, otherwise that game where you could ally with Lucifer would have gotten attention long ago.

There's a bit of everything in SMT, though. Going with the devil is just an option, after all.

@maxwell + midnight owl

You don't sell your children like a collectable comic or a car. Your children should be your entire world. What these 2 have done is fucking vile. Your flippant attitude is disgusting.

So clearly, selling children is illegal but buying them is not.

No wonder China is so overpopulated.

RapeLay would like a word with you on how much a game sells effects how much it's used in media.

More likely, Atlus fans realize that none of the games can ever, EVER be shown to anyone associated with the alarmist press.

Well more than the likely the girl would've been a sex slave and a prostitute so I don't think I would go as far as to she got a better deal than death. At least death is fucking peaceful. The Chinese sex slave market is absolutely atrocious.

In China, men are LITERALLY worth TEN TIMES what women do.
