Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Earlier in the week, Bungie debuted their newest map during an MLG event in San Jose. The new map is called Cold Storage and is a remake of Chill Out from the original Halo. The quality is complete crap, but at least you have a basic idea of how the new map looks.

I completely forgot to post this video but remembered thanks to the latest Bungie Weekly update, where Luke Smith dropped a couple of hi-res screens of the new map. From the looks of it, Cold Storage seems to be the place where the Forerunner experimented on the Flood. Luke teases that more info will be revealed on Cold Storage next week.

Bungie also announced that Microsoft will be at San Diego Comic Con talking about some Halo projects (like the new book), and that they'll be attending PAX (it's in their home state, so they have no good excuse not to go).

What do you think of Cold Storage so far?

That map was cool. I'm looking forward to it!

it doesn't matter because no one is buying them. have you actually seen the numbers of people playing under the "DLC only" matchmaking on any given night? it's pathetic, just like the number of people playing at all. pretty soon there'll be more people playing Halo 2.

MS thought they could get away with charging a ridiculous $10 for 3 maps and everyone has jumped ship to CoD4. it's no coincidence that Halo lost it's status as the number one multiplayer game shortly after they released that first map pack. of course being the schmuck's that they are MS blithley ignored everyone's irritation at the pricing by launching another one. hurray, let the fleecing continue while more gamers leave for CoD4!

Congrats, only you f*ing retards at MS could publish a game that's taylor made for online multi-play, sell almost 10mil copies made exclusively for your system and then decide to fleece that fanbase which sees practically everyone leaving for another publisher's product (that's available on two other systems, by the way). take a bow.

it's pretty obvious why bungie broke away. the only question is how long ago did they reach that decision?

I don't even remember Chill Out. What size are we talking about, here? Because if there's one thing that Halo 3 fails at (and oh, there's at least one), it's having a good variety of smaller multiplayer maps.

@carg0
Bungie integrated the DLC maps with the other, normal playlists a long time ago. Generally, the DLC-only playlists are only heavily used for the first week or so after the maps' release. I can tell you from experience, the DLC-only playlists have very little variety and get unbearably dull very quickly. I'm not surprised to see them nearly empty.

While I agree that Halo 3 isn't the best multiplayer game on the 360 -- that would be Team Fortress 2 ;) -- I don't think Halo's fall from number one is MS or Bungie's fault. There are simply more games of an extremely high quality out there, right now. Halo 2 had fairly little to compete with, in its time. Times change.

Hang em High or don't bother remaking old maps.

Do it...

You hit it on the money here. I enjoy Halo 3 a lot, but I don't enjoy it as much as I did Halo 2 and there are simply way too many other games out for the 360 that compete with my time with it.

I might have to actually think whether I want to buy the next map pack or not, with Halo FNF pretty much being over and all.

They already remade Hang 'Em High for Halo 2. It was called Tombstone. It sucked. I seriously doubt they're going to remake it again for Halo 3.

Sounds awesome. Halo 3 is one of the few reasons to own a 360.

@Sharpless
I'm sure they've learned they're lesson. Remaking Hang 'Em High wouldn't be that.

Oh and Halo 2 was fun for a week. That game is trash.

I made a boo-boo. I wanted to say "...that hard" but got distracted.

I'd like to see Boarding Action or Ascension remade. Or another Covenant level in general.

So charging $10 for 3 maps is ridiculous, but charging it for 4 maps is not? I fail to see the difference there.

Like most people, I am sick of Halo 3 entirely. The multiplayer is terrible on Live and I would only ever pick it up again if I wanted to give myself a nice headache.

That being said, more maps for Halo 3 would be nice but for 10 bucks for THREE maps with each bundle, I just do not think it is worth it. If it was 5 bucks or less, I would buy it. I bought the last two packs and was sorely disappointed with all of them. There was only one map in EACH map pack that was worth playing on and even they weren't the greatest.

Chillout is one of my favourite maps from Halo and has always been a favourite overall but another 10 bucks for this map and two others? No thanks, I hate the online play and I am not wasting another cent on half assed map 'packs'

Until they start being smart with their releases and releasing 5+ maps with each map pack and other little bits and pieces like more armor perms, I will definitely not be wasting another dime on Halo or anything from Bungie.

Total fucking rip off

Oh shit, I totally forgot about that. It was trash but I see them remaking all Halo 1 maps for 3 at some point in time. I mean, what else are they working on?

I honestly don't think that Hang 'Em High can be done well with the Halo 2/3 weapon set and gameplay modifications. The Halo 2 remake is nearly exact, for the most part -- so why didn't it work? I think it works best with Halo 1's dynamics, and anything they try to reproduce it as will likely fail, just like Tombstone. And Bungie has at least one other project right now, so I'd be surprised if they make anymore maps beyond this coming pack.

Also, I much prefer Halo 2's multiplayer. Halo 3's is just lackluster and, at times, frustratingly annoying. Halo 2 plays much better, in my opinion. Much more satisfying. Something intangible is missing from Halo 3.

Oh, darn. I wasn't in before the, "lol no 1 plais this gaym no mores. COD4!" comments. Hopefully next time I can be a wee bit quicker.

With that being said, "meh" on this map. I prefer original content over remakes.

The last map pack for Halo 3 was a waste of $10. Blackout isnt in any good playlists, and Ghost Town has the worst game types for its size (Assault, CTF).

Unless the map pack is either free or includes Batman armor then I wont be getting it.

Batman armor would be sweet. Also, Optimus Prime armor.
