Activision's taking a bit of gamble with Tony Hawk: RIDE, its all-feet-based skating game scheduled to hit this November. While the Tony Hawk series definitely needed a makeover, this $119.99 entry to the new era of the digital Hawk-Man may seem a bit too risky for those who haven't played the game or even touched the peripheral.
GameStop and Activision have solved half of the problem, by putting a full-sized, final retail Tony Hawk: RIDE skateboard peripheral in the retailer's stores as part of its marketing. While there's no game to go along with it (really, it's just the board as pictured above), you can at least get a better of idea of what you might expect to have sitting on your living room floor (and whether or not it'll fit under your couch).
Of course, because the thing is mounted (and not removable from) a rack, you'll only be able to touch it with your hands. Odd, considering this is a game that will require the full use of your feet, from the menus to your in-game skating experience. Still, if you're on the fence about Tony Hawk: RIDE (or at least have convinced yourself to take the leap), here's one option for (kind of) checking it out early.

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
they didn't need endorsements from celebrities to sell sliced bread.
Our store forgot to send the actual standee, so all we got was the board. Our board is scuffed all to pieces because everyone of us have been standing on it, jumping, spinning, or walking with it. I'm sure its got a weight limit too, so don't be standing with one foot on each end. You'll hear it crack a bunch. Surprisingly, it doesn't look broken, despite the abuse its been given. But then again, I don't think its a real controller, just the weighted shell.
I've been skating for quite sometime, not a pro, but the fun of skateboarding is more the experience of simply riding the skateboard, learning the tricks, trips with friends and stuff like that, and it's understandable to make that experience more accesible to the mainstream, but again, better ride a real skateboard.
One thing that I want to see the implementation is flip tricks. I don't think you can actually flip that thing and pushing some button makes it like just another controller. The only one thing that may be somewhat good will be grabs since it makes sense to touch the board. Lips, flips, grinds, manuals and all that are some things I'd like to see how will work because can be some real fail xD
Yeah, sad... so sad...
They seemed to have good intentions with this game, too bad it looks like it's going to be a fail.
Nice question about the controls, I think they should keep the standard control schemes.
This game will be sold only bundled with the skateboard?
Say it when they're doing it near your nice car.
There's video of me playing it here and I'm not a celebrity at all.
In my short time with it, I'm still on the fence. It was fun (even though I was TERRIBLE at it), but the long-term potential remains to be seen. I'm looking forward to getting it in my house, but admittedly it'll be a review copy sent from Activision. I admit, I'm not sure if I would spend $119.99 out of pocket to get it... I suppose I'll find out after I play it for many, many hours.
Yes, I know real skateboarders can bend over and stuff, but why would real skateboarders play this game? =P
I still don't understand why Activision are making Guitar Hero games when EA's Rock Band is just winning. They should just drop this franchise and start working on making the next Call of Duty epic.
I kid! I don't own either. Or COD, for that matter.
