The Let’s Tap family is toast. (We’re guessing overdose on whatever tranquilizers daddy and company were stealing from mommy.) SEGA’s latest Let’s Tap trailer, which you can view after the break, doesn’t quite have the zip as the last one. Instead of featuring the atomic and oh-so-happy aforementioned family, the Sonic publisher elected to bust out some gameplay footage.
We’re left with only assumptions about the family. I guess there is a chance that creepy daddy is living under a bridge somewhere, getting one last high off the kilo he sold his daughter for. But basic logic suggests he's in a morgue.
Anyway, the trailer’s action shows "Tap Runner," one of the four mini-games available in Let’s Tap. The objective of this tiny game is to win a holographic race ... by tapping on a small cardboard box. Awesome!
With the lack of the family in the trailer, it shows that this idea does still seem like fun but it doesn't show how foolish you will look as you play it. Not exactly a fair trade-off, but I'm fine with it.
Anyone who is writing this game off is going to miss out. Both Dale and I agreed it was the most interesting, fun game we had played at last year's TGS.
If it's such a stupid idea, doesn't that make it more of an accomplishment if it's fun? It doesn't sound any more stupid than the Donkey Konga controls to me (which I've never played). I can see how people can be wary of a new control scheme, but there is no guarantee that it will be bad.
See, now if this was by itself in an arcade, this may make money. Hell, I could actually imagine a game based off of this for Wii-Ware, focused on this part of the entire "Let's Tap" game, and with several levels and customizable levels. And maybe compatibility with the Wii Board. That Track and Field game for the NES scored back then by it.
...Unless all of this stuff is already doable and still part of the whole package. Though Sega hasn't exactly had the best streak as of late.
I've played the full Japanese version of this game, it's mostly garbage, imo. Tap Runner is pretty fun but I didn't think it lasted long enough and every other game was a throwaway as far as I'm concerned.
So in any case I do not think this game is worth purchasing. If they released Tap Runner alone as a 500 point Wii Ware title it would be totally worth it, but as it is, in its current package, I think I'm gonna pass when the US version hits.

..heck who knows, we just got a Wii Fit for crying out loud. Whatever keeps the GF happy!!
Yeah, I agree the idea of this is kind of stupid. But I was surprised how much fun...tapping... was. Wow. Yeah. I want this!
