The remake of Persona for PSP? Yeah, you could say I'm a little excited about that. This is the only Persona title I've never played, and although I know I could go back and play the original, the ability to slip it into my PSP and take it with me wherever I go is even more appealing. Plus, the new logo is positively sexy. Just look at it!
The video after the jump shows off more of the cutscenes from the upcoming title, which show off Atlus' distinctive style and just make me weak in the knees. Japan doesn't have long to wait for this one as it comes out next month, but North America will have to wait until fall for it. Considering the quality they bring to the table when it comes to voice acting, I'd say it will likely be well worth the wait.
It doesn't really look like a remake exactly. Not that that's a bad thing, given the weird changes made when it travelled from Japan to the US originally a more faithful port would be plenty welcome. Still, I think if they're going to the trouble of remaking it I think it could look a little more impressive. The dungeons especially look very basic.
They sold me already since I never played the first game. Now, they reel me in with the track they used for the video (I think it's the battle theme looking at the official site.)
I tried the PS1 version a while back and couldn't stand it. The translation was horrible. A "now loading" screen that would appear for everything. The final straw was the sound the character would make while walking around in first person view. Those steps were so damn loud.
Hopefully, this port addresses a lot of the issue the original had. If not, I'll pass.
I just hope they don't make the same mistake with the first one and edit and/or dumb down some of the content and cultural references for us simple minded western types. This time I hope we finally get to play Persona the way it was meant to be played. do want... mmmmmmmm. nom nom nom
@Exquisitor: The original game fit onto one single PS1 disc. Why wouldn't it fit onto a UMD, which holds many, many times that amount of data?
@Baskervi11e: What about current-day Atlus makes you think they would do anything remotely like that? In fact, this game was almost passed up because Atlus didn't want to remind people about that horrible blotch on their history.
@XanderSan: It doesn't look like a remake because it isn't. It's an upgraded port.
@Chronic Logic: Um, the only Persona game that used suicide as a theme(a -small- one that was supposed to tie into the larger theme of death in general) was Persona 3. How this clip conveyed "suicide" to you I don't think I'll ever know.
CAN'T WAIT. I actually owned the original at one point, but the system felt to archaic at the time so I sold it back. Now that I have a much broader taste in games and a greater understanding of the SMT series, I can't wait to play it again.
Please delay this game until 2010. That way I can finish off Persona 2 [disk two, performing the riddle searches] and Persona 4 [the bathhouse section]. While this may greatly inconvenience the others in this comments section, perhaps leading them to tears or suicide, it would work quite well for me. And that's what really counts isn't it? *Chee*
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Although the first person dungeon crawling might hurt my head.

I'm sure it will, the Persona series seems to have really taken off over here. Can't wait!
Also, SNOW QUEEN. HELL YEAH.
