Cheats, more playable characters, and cross-region co-op headed to Mercs 2 photo

After doing practically everything there is to do in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, I put the game back on my shelf and started on a different game. But as I was beating the last few missions, I thought to myself, "Man, if only they had included cheats, then I'd never stop playing."

Apparently someone at Pandemic thought that cheats would be a good idea too, as the company has announced today that an update for Xbox 360 (Oct. 13) and PlayStation 3 (Oct. 20) is in the works.

The free "Total Payback" update will include the following:

  • Cheats: Infinite ammo, infinite health, and unlock all weapons, vehicles, and airstrikes
  • Six new playable characters: Blanco, Fiona, Ewan, Eva, and more
  • Cross region co-op: Play multiplayer with friends from foreign countries
Hawt! We have also been told that downloadable content will be coming sometime in November, so be on the lookout for more on that in the near future.

It would be better if they announced three player co-op.

Seriously, if the game was designed with three main characters, why not create three player co op?

How about fixes for the massive bugs?

Also, I think I'd like to see some sort of remedy for a few of the bugs before they start in on all of the fun stuff.

CROSS REGION CO-OP YAY.

Sweet christ that's something should be in the game no matter what. That's the entire point of multiplayer.

The others sound good, I can finally kill Fiona as much as I want.

But yea, fix the bugs first. I've had the game lock up on me 3 times and sometimes I call Ewan, lose fuel and the item I want and he never shows.

Still, co-op is SO much fun.

too bad they can't fix the AI and little annoyances like not being able to run with an airstrike equipped.

The game isn't horrible but had potential to be better with just a little more polish.

WOO! Maybe the new stuff will help cover up the massive wound i received from beating the game in 4 hours! I seriously love mercs, but this game was too short.

I was thinking the SAME exact thing.. YES. This will make the game totally worth the buy.

hmm.. if you're playing as Fiona, who's going to be screaming "IF YOU'RE EVER LOST COME BACK TO THE PMC" in your ear every 15 seconds?

@Phantom Spaceman

There's not enough space on your harddrive for that big of a patch.

ZING!

The massive bugs everyone claims, arn't that bad in my opinion. I'm yet to run into any of them that are game breaking, and well, the ones where my vehicle becomes immortal, i just enjoy. I can't wait for the cheats and i am loving this game in general.

Bugs or no bugs, any game that lets me destroy an entire city block in one fiery shitstorm is a win. That said, I'm quietly hopeful that they will sneak a patch in with the new assets, since it's a free download.

i'm just worried that you'll have to pay for it. they wouldn't do that after making us pay for a bug of a release, right?

The bugs are overlookable, as the core gameplay is still extremely enjoyable. I do also however wish the game was longer. DLC is just what Mercs 2 needs and I am very happy that they aren't failing to deliver on that front.

The bug of my save-data corrupting was much harder to overlook. It doesn't solve my biggest pain with the regular release in that you don't unlock the same things that your co-op buddy did, which leads to a hell of a lot of covering old ground again if you're playing follow the leader.

Still an awesome game though.

Apart from the occasional clip, me turning invisable, the unlimated amount of spare parts i keep getting without picking them up, the crap Ai, and the fact that the wheelspin achievement is bugged so i may never get it. I LOVED the game.
This is fantastic i look forward to going back and it gives me an excuse to capture all HVTs this time even if some do die before i reach them...
