Cheapskate alert: Universe at War is only $5 on Steam photo

Another Friday night, another weekend deal from Steam is upon us. This time, it's Petroglyph's 2007 sci-fi real-time strategy game, Universe at War: Earth Assault. While the title normally runs for $19.99, it's been brought down to $5 and will remain at that price until Monday.

I almost picked up the Xbox 360 version of Universe at War during the massive $10 Best Buy sale a few weeks ago, but then I remembered Brad's review and decided against it. However, my gut tells me the PC version might actually be worth the low price.

Riddle me this, Dtoiders: is UaW worth the five bucks, or is my money better spent on a Spicy Chicken Sandwich from Wendy's?

They're selling the game on Amazon for $2.83 and you can also get a used copy for 75 cents.

Pretty tempting, even if it is only a mediocre RTS.

lol, this game was $5 at big lots a year ago, and $7 at Target a year ago as well. The only reason the steam version took this long to drop in price was because it's digital and not hogging shelf space not being sold.

I managed to play the beta of this. Its just another rts, not bad, not great. $5 makes this a decent choice if you're in the mood for a game you havent played, it has a few interesting points. Although, you cant really ever just say no to fast food... good question, that one!

Bought this earlier, I've wasted 5 dollars on much worse things than a decent RTS.

Still on the fence regarding Defense Grid for 5 bucks (on Steam).

@Grimspoon

Did you try the demo? It's by far one of the best tower defense games ever made. And for $5 your getting more than your money's worth, it was worth it at $20 if you ask me.

I thought Universe at War was a pretty dull RTS. I picked it up at Target for 7 bucks a while ago and thought it was a waste of money. After trying to sell it on Ebay unsuccessfully (no bids starting at .50 with a 2.00 S&H) I just gave it to Goodwill this week. Before plunking down 5 bucks I would definitely recommend people try the demo first. That 5 bucks could be put towards much much better RTSs.

Meh. I have no great love for the genre, so I get to keep my pocket change this week.

...

Actually that's a lie. I just plunked down for PvZ instead.

It's one of those games that always has discounts like the original Splinter Cell and every football game made ever. I got mine for a pound and for that, it was okay.

That's 5$ more that it's worth.

If you like the genre, you'll like the game. It's even a bit of a parody of itself. It's really good and worth $20. $5 is a steal.
