Che Guevara takes over Lionhead's website photo

The Lionhead website has a curious update to it today. The above image of Che Guevara has cropped up on a splash page with a "6" next to him. The thumbs below determine a skin on the main site when you click on them, red for a positive response and blue for a negative one. But that's all it seems to do and there's no further information on the site relating to it.

With Gamescom coming up next week and the suggestion that there's going to be a "special announcement" from Peter Molyneux, it's probably a good bet that the teaser relates to it in some way. Could the infamous teller of development tall tales be planning to incite a revolution at the event? We'll be keeping an eye out for any further developments as they arrive.

If you want to hint that your announcement will spark a revolution, this isn't the way to go.

It's going to be like the Natal "Talk to Milo" thing, but instead it's Talk to Che about the Cuban Revolution and Capitalist Pigdogs.

If you are refering to me;

The hero is the Unnamed hero(s) from Fable 1 & 2. I 'm refering to the Unamed hero of Fable 7 meeting with Che and Che blabbing on and on about communism.

Fuck Che. Murdering commie scumbag. And fuck Lionhead for putting him on their site.

This is behavior I would expect from some spoiled rotten Orange County asshole who wears a Che tshirt while driving around a brand new Beamer his parents got him for his birthday.

I was afraid when I clicked this article it would be a "Che" love fest in the comments section. Thank God Zombutler and Scary Womanizing Pig Mask made sure that didn't happen. So, if Lionhead is using Che as their mascot, does that mean that they will hunt us down and murder any of us that don't agree with their next game?
I'll hope for the best and that this is actually an announcement where you get to play as the people who hunted Che down and slaughter him. One of the most righteous kills in the history of assassinations. Anyway, glad to see that his "image" is supporting Capitalism through the sales of his ugly face t-shirts.

Che meant well, he just aligned himself with the wrong people. He believed in socialism, not communism, there is a difference. But as far as Lion Head goes, I hate Fable, and it's obviously Milo's Adventures in Wonderland.

I know someone whose father's eyes were gouged out because he worked for a newspaper that Che decided wasn't towing his line. Yes, he was basically just another murderous dictator.

I hope Peter has a decent "revolutionary" reveal though.

Murderer or not Che is the perfect symbol of Lionhead's "revolutionary" games.

That is to say Che's revolution was to rid his Cuba of a tyrant only to replace it with another tyrant. That's Lionhead's games in a nutshell, promising the greatest thing every only to give you the same thing you've seen before.

@DaedHead8:

Only if you persistently denounce capitalism yet take full advantage of the benefits which said system provides (such as a brand new Beamer, Che tshirts, etc). Then yes, you disgust me.

Nice shorthand for Molyneux himself I guess: pushing for a revolution with noble intentions, but having it turn horribly wrong against you, whether you still think you're righteous and awesome or not.

The image has nuanced implication, and Lionhead fair enough will get a good amount of flack from this image alone. But if they're going for something about questionable heroics, it could be interesting.

This coming from a guy that doesn't hate Peter Molynuex for his excited and vocal dreaming (and questionable delivery against hype)

I like to think that half the people that wear Che t-shirts wear them out of a sense of irony. I personally love my Che shirt depicting him with a rapper's $ chain necklace.

On the actual subject of the article, however, Tubatic summed my feelings up rather nicely.

Wow, it's as if everyone knows who and what the fuck Che Guevara represents, but they really don't at all. Who knows what this means. All I know is that I'm pretty excited to know. Regardless of your opinion of the man's actions, his motives and convictions were true, and inspired courage and willpower everywhere. Sure, his image is blown out of proportion, but what he stood for is right. Molyneux never ceases to surprise me. What a crazy fellow.

You are an ignorant. Che was a rich kid with medic education that could have lived very well in the U.S. supported dictatorships all over Latin America. He fought for his views as much as America fights for its own, none is necessarily right, and both have done horrible things.

Che was a horrible violent bad guy. The way he bombed Cambodia and napalmed all those poor South Vietnamese kids. And don't get me started on that time when he rounded up all the Japanese-Cubans and put them internment camps. And all the torture and complete legal black hole that's going on in Cuba right now today in places like Guantanamo Bay. That shit's fucked up. And it's all Che's fault!
Usedtabe's Avatar - Comment posted on 08/13/2009 13:59

@CocoJambo: Please explain how exactly I am ignorant? I have read up on Che for a while now, and no much about his "ideals" and why he did what he did. But by your logic, because I disagree with his ideals and how he chose to enact them, I'm ignorant? You do know what ignorant means, right? It means a lcaking of knowledge or education, which I have both covered when it comes to Che. So please, just because you like to be "neutral" and think you operate in some non-existant "grey" area, don't accuse some knowledgeable about a subject of being ignorant. His "intentions" mean shit when compared to his actions, IMO.
