Remedy Entertainment doesn’t seem keen on the idea of a pre-release Alan Wake demo, perhaps weary of the potential to scare off potential consumers by the game’s use of darkness, helicopters or combination of both.
Speaking this afternoon during a Remedy-sponsored live chat, studio CFO Mika Reini almost-kind-of ruled out the possibility of an early demo. “Demo before launch,” Reini wrote, “most likely not.”
We’ve decided to contact Nolan North for absolute confirmation. Chances are if there is a demo, dude is going to narrate it or something. And no -- this joke will never get old. I won’t allow it. Ever.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
This could probably be a bad sign, or not (Dark Void had a demo even with all its sucky glory)
I just hope it has some sort of evil dead book page collection element to it, that'ld make me happy.
Also, I smell something, it's similar to that scent that Duke Nukem Forever gave off, but different too.
Oh I know why, the scent is slightly different because of the fact it's a different studio.
You get my meaning though. These guys have GOT to be careful they might take too long and be thrown out on their asses if they aren't. At the moment, all it looks like at the moment, to the people who have a stake in their stocks is that, is that they're wasting money and not bringing it back in.
Now I on't like decision that're based solely on pleasing the stock market but, the market has a big say on what goes in companies like this.
They should be careful.
So optimistic. Always basking in those rays on the sunny side of life.
The other plausible answer is that their game is mediocre, and they want a first batch of people to buy it blindly, then realize it blows, rather than have no one buy it AT ALL.
I dunno, I think sometimes that demos can simply feed into that anti-hype. I'm not going to dig into examples, but there have been a number of occasions where a demo has become a reason to further pan a releases success before it has even had a chance to happen. Early on after I'd bought the 360 I was big on trying out demos, but now I find that I never bother and it hasn't ever substantially affected a purchasing decision. I don't think the decision to not release a demo is a big deal.
Seriously now, if there's something i've learned from Yahtzee is that lack of hope for a game is the best policy, if it rocks you'll be pleasantly surprised and if it sucks it's no big loss.
