Chair is no longer working on Ender's Game photo

With all of the excitement surrounding Shadow Complex, I think most of us had forgotten Chair Entertainment was working on an adaptation of Ender's Game for digital distribution outlets. Little other than an emphasis on the fiction's Battle Room was known about the project, and there's a reason for that.

While Chair "had an amazing design" for Ender's Game, studio co-founder Donald Mustard told Joystiq, "one of Epic's primary objectives is to create original and unique franchises. I don't know that Ender's Game fits into that strategic objective anymore."

"If anyone decides they want to make it, I have some ideas I'd love to talk to them about."

That's cause for celebration, assuming you either dislike licensed games or Orson Scott Card. Or, maybe you just want that darned Shadow Complex sequel. Either way, I can't fault you.

Good for Chair.

I'm torn. I love the whole Enderverse, but I don't know if my imagination is ready to have someone else's idea of what the classic characters and iconic scenes are supposed to look like.

I'd rather see Chair make their own brand of awesome, so I'll look on the bright side of this one.

NOW WHERES MY EFFIN SHADOW COMPLEX 2???? (or something as cool)

Yeah, we have to miss out on a game play experience, that according to the actuall book, could potentially meld first person shooting, real time strategy, and action adventure into the same game. I can see how this is a good thing.

Seriously, regardless of what you think of Orson Scott Card or licensed franchises, that's not a reason to be glad that we're not getting interesting gameplay.

Despite essentially being about video games, I can't imagine the things that made Ender's Game great translating well to the gaming world at all

I don't think you could make decent videogame adaptation of Ender's Game without losing a lot of the great narrative moments of the book.

I'm glad they decided to not do this. I'd rather not see the few action scenes in Enderss Game neutered to appeal to a wider audience or stretched out to fill out a game's quota of gameplay time.

So an over-rated developer is no longer working on an adaptation of one of the worst books ever written? How is this even news?

Ive always thought thought the zero-g portions of the book would make an interesting xbla/psn type of game. The sort of game play Dead Space zero g portions gave us a taste only with more opponents.

@D-Nez that's a good idea. I've always thought those segments of the book would be an awesome part of a game. I actually think the entire book would make a good action rpg game, you could spend your time between character interaction, the zero-g game and the computer game Ender plays. But I'm not gonna hold my breath waiting for it.

Fine by me. 16-year-old mrandydixon would be sad, but 29-year-old mrandydixon doesn't want to give Card any more money than he already has.

Advent Rising 2 needs to happen. The Mustard bros. and crew have so much more experience now. They could nail it.
