Quantcast

I have not watched the above clip, nor do I have any desire to. You see, I was a panelist on X-Play’s brand new segment Head to Head yesterday and something … happened. Something rather embarrassing.

Not to ruin the “magic” of television, but, since you won’t see it (thank Nayru, Farore, and Din it wasn't caught on camera!), I am sitting on a high director’s chair that is raised up on a tall (but small) platform. It is also worth mentioning that this elevated set-up is surrounded by a production office filled with busy people (this fact plays into the story later).

Seconds before the segment started taping, I leaned back in the tall director’s chair I was sitting in (ya’ know, to get comfortable) and it slid off the platform, resulting in me (and all the equipment attached to me) crashing to the floor. Remember those busy people I mentioned earlier in the story? Yeah, well, they laughed. Really hard. (To their credit, they did ask if I was okay after the chuckles died down.)

I managed to pick myself up (and, literally, dust myself off) in time for the taping, but it was too late: I was so embarrassed and distracted that I could barely concentrate on the questions Mr. Sessler was asking me. Seriously, I can’t remember a thing I said. This is why I refuse to watch the clip. I am too humiliated to see how it all turned out.

To end on a positive note, however, I will say that the X-Play producers (particularly Albert and Jess), hosts, and crew were unbelievably amazing. Thanks again to all involved. And at least I have a funny story to tell the grandkids someday, right?

If you guys watch it, can you do me a favor and let me know how it turned out? I am thankful it was short, but fearing the worst. Promise you’ll be gentle.

[Thanks for the embed code, Dan]

Don't be so hard on yourself. You were on National T.V. and you did fine.

I clocked you on talking a bit nervously fast, but its nothing compared to Mr Motormouth Himself, Adam Sessler.

honestly u stuttered a tiny bit, and looked a little nervous, but that could be from the lack of posture and/or support the midget barstool lent you. Besides those great job man, hope to see you on more shows in the future. I bet its a great feeling.

Other from the fact that you seemed a little nervous I barely noticed anything that stood out that would lead me to believe that you had an embarassing moment before going on. Were you nervous about maybe laughing at yourself on TV after you little mishap?

You did very well.

In my opinion, the only thing I though needed improving was that amount of time they allowed you (or showed you, as the case my be) to talk about the new original titles v. established franchises topic. You and the other guy on the panel seemed to have opposite views on the subject and I think it would have been a little more interesting if you (or editing/post production) gave more detail on your view of how original title will sell consoles rather than established franchises.

You did fine dude. You should watch it.

Your subconscious took the wheel, kinda like when your driving for a while and zone out.

Plus, falling is not a big deal unless someone gets hurt. Don't be embarrassed, those people who were laughing have had similar shit happen to them guaranteed.

TV and film can be full of embarrassing moments, you just can't let it get to you.

Chad was the most attractive out of those 3 (no homo). So who cares if you were nervous because of a embarrassing fall to the ground. Hey, to your credit, you probably made some very bored office people's day. And for that, the dolphins are proud.

Speaking of dolphins, when are you and Hamza going to fight to the death? You know, so we can see who's the better sea creature fan.

It sounded great man, really. And I completely agree with what both of you said. I haven't enjoyed any metal gear solid game since the first one and have no intentions of even touching number 4. But Final Fantasy XIII looks amazing and, truth be told, I'll probably buy a PS3 closer to when it comes out just so I can play all 400 versions of that game.

Oh, man...that story is hilarious, Chad. It reminds me of the ninth episode of the first season of Arrested Development, “Storming the Castle”, in which Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) leans back on a chair. A leg breaks off, and he crashes to the floor; he tries it again later on in the episode, and it happens again.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you have to check out the show; in my opinion, it’s the funniest show in the history of television. If I was closer to California, I’d let you borrow my DVDs, but watching the episodes online will have to suffice. If you’re lazy, or short on time, you can just check out the individual episode that I mentioned.

As for the X-Play segment, you did fine. Really. Like, if you hadn’t said anything about falling out of your chair, I seriously doubt that I would’ve noticed anything out of the ordinary. But I agree with Evil Cheese: I wish that they had let you and the other guy go at it for at least a bit longer, because you seemed to be praising Sony’s original IPs, whereas the other guy just wanted to see more established franchises.
