You seem to have misunderstood a little; Dale isn't saying that the Wi-fi version can't access online network functions, he's saying that only the Wi-Fi version can play online with other people, while the 3G version can only send/receive messages, leaderboard updates, etc.
Essentially, the Wi-Fi version can do everything, and the 3G connection isn't quite good enough to operate online multiplayer, but can still handle everything else. What this really means is that the 3G version isn't worth bothering with at all.
DeadnBuried: "What this really means is that the 3G version isn't worth bothering with at all."
Haha so true.
The cloud save transfer stuff sounds cool, but doesn't really excite me - it's been done on the iPhone and iPad.
What really gets me going is the planned CROSS platform support between Dragon's Crown Vita and PS3. I'm stoked to have my wife playing on the PS3 while I game next to her, with her on the Vita. Any details on that at CES? :D
Umm.. So.. Like.. Are developers going to pull some sort of bullshit on us about needing 3G to make their other online functions work, or is it just that this COULD use the 3G to make the other functions work while your still forced to use Wi-Fi because of the lack of adequate data? Cause way it stands theres still no reason to make those things work with the 3G if your using Wi-Fi, the division of power (and making the Vita connect to twice the connections, specially for the same game) doesn't make much sense. If anything it shows how they're willing to shoehorn in the need for 3G.
"We saw game messages, leaderboards, rankings, prompts and other information reliably appear in the game, even from the overcrowded CES show floor, where the cell signal is often unreliable. Operation was fast and flawless."
Theres a slight problem with this that can equate to having the wool being pulled over your eyes. Not saying they did, but if the 3G is what was giving you the fast messages and stuff, but should be giving you similar issues your cell's would have, then it would mean that either something was feeding the signal inside the venue, or the messages were coming from the Wi-Fi set up. This would give you superlative signal for the demos and make people thing "oh wow, this is the best thing ever" when its really just smoke and mirrors.
@Magnalon
Yeah, its not amazing or anything, but this has to be stroking someones giblets somewhere to be able to do it with their gaming handheld. So I'm guessing those people don't care much if its been done before.
what the fuck??
why not multiple slots???
damn it i don't like this 1 save per game crap.
we have 200x bandwith compared to 2 generations ago.
i still don't know why some developers still limit games save slots to 2-3 or even 1.
it's understandably if it's a fighting game or any sports, but for RPG, Stealth games, as well as adventure games there is no excuse not to have more than 20 save slots.
It's only for cloud saves. They never stated how many saves you can get on the carts that don't need a memory card.

Not sure if that's going to be the standard for all games like it.
@netnavi
Only a handful of Vita games are actually playable on the PS3. Warrior's Lair and Motorstorm RC are the ones that come to mind, and that's because they're packaged together. Not everything on PSN can be played on the PS3 (like downloadable PSP games).
