Didn't you say that if Kinect sold 5 million units by Christmas you'd do an episode of the Jimquisition in a dress?
also, boners
Yeah, I started it. :)
I don't think I said that. I actually resigned to the fact that Kinect would succeed as soon as MS got Justin Bieber on board.
Looks like my home is about to become a two ps3 household . Hope that rumored pricecut happens soon.
Though every time i hear microsoft boast about how much xbox 360 has sold i cant help but feel a bit of disgust....Mostly cause i had to buy 2...after the first one broke about 4 times and they didnt wanna fix it for free anymore...
I know sold is sold...i get it but really theres not alot to be proud off...Especially when you are pretty much laughing in our faces how faulty hardware made you sell us your console multiple times.
I am not saying i havent enjoyed the console but i could do with a bit less rubbing it in our faces...
It's incredible how oblivious and terrified some of you are about the casual market. It's kinda sad. You're probably the same dickholes that shit on the Wii every chance you get.
*shakes head in disapproval*
As for Kinect, it's a good piece of tech that is sadly being used for the wrong purpose. For PCs it'll develop into a wonderful tool. For gaming, it's a long ways from being practical for much at all. A cool showcase of the technology that will help push forth the next generation of GUI software and interaction, but that's about it.
Kinect isn't going to achieve much more than SONY's Eyetoy did last generation. The only real difference is that MS knows how to sell hype to the average idiot American consumer who has more money (and time... can't forget time...) to waste on something as unworthy as Kinect. So of course it is selling well. But much like the Wii, I think most of them will be collecting dust in the not too distant future as people go back to their controllers that still provide a much better gaming experience.
I don't know what will happen with Move. Don't really care, to be honest. It has the most potential to succeed in gaming (combining the strengths of the Wii and MS's controller-less, or button-less [take your pick] add campaign). But it really comes down to the devs and this applies to Kinect, too, even though I'm skeptical of the gaming applications that will come from Kinect's narrowed focus of interactivity.
There is some unnecessary venom in this comment thread. Chill my babies.
But who know what will happen. Sony hopefully will give it great first party support and hopefully it sells enough to encourage third party publishers to give it some attention.
Sony should do all it can to get Move support in games that found benefit from it. For example Metal Gear Rising is a clear example of a game thT would potentially benifit from solidly integrated motion controls. At the same time I don't what it shoehorned into every game under the sun if it doesn't make sense and doesn't result in fun.
Perhaps the rage is because that 8 million figure is actually 8 million kinect units in peoples homes instead of however many move units have been sold (see: shipped) to shops.
@the Haters
What does it matter to you? Really? In the grand scheme of things it's just 8 million people that aren't you buying something they want. If you get mad over that than you need help.
your typical retarded fanboy, huhhh, i thought the day of people(jealous fanboys) bashing on the red rings were gone, these people live in the past, and are the same ones who criticize the wii for not having good/great games
I've got no problem with Microsoft trying to expand their audience, but it really seems like they are putting all their eggs in one basket. It's basically looking just like what everyone accused Nintendo of doing with the Wii - forgetting the established gamer to go after the blue ocean - except that Nintendo still had games like Zelda: Twilight Princess available at launch. Kinect doesn't have a similar game to complement it's launch, and we won't be seeing one from Microsoft until Forza 4 comes out sometime this year (hopefully).
Also interesting to see PS3's global sales, because last year I'm sure i read they were at about 47 milion. And while some of those would be replacement consoles, it would be far far far fewer than the 360's.
I bet he mumbled the "US" in: "top selling US console" a bit.
Also interesting that of 50 million consoles, only 30 million have LIVE accounts. Maybe some of the missing 20 million are the replacement consoles eh?
45.6m
http://www.vgchartz.com/home.php
Don't forget though, that the PS3 has an 8% failure rate and Sony are very harsh on the warranty. If you're a day out, they want £200 so I'm sure quite a few of them are replacements too.
A. Your 20% failure rate is actually more like 7-8%. (Remember 54% on the Xbox, never forget)
B. Are you saying 13-15 million PS3's are used only as blu-ray players? 13-15 MILLION people bought the most expensive games console available, just to play Blu-rays?!?!?
You sir, are on some kind of awesome killer super-crack.
@Hasney, thanks dude!
PS3 45.6m - 8% failure rate = around 42 million working consoles.
360 50m - 40% failure rate (being VERY generous for arguments sake) = around 30 million working consoles.
Hang on a moment, how many LIVE subscriptions were there again???
An extra year on the market (rush out borked console) - a fuckload of sales.
An almost criminal (in fact legally forced to offer 3 year warantee makes it pretty much criminal) failure rate - a fuckload of sales
Locking users into a subscription, and purchase of over priced (transferable) hardware - a fuck load of REPLACEMENT sales.
Appealing to the lowest common denominator (the Stupid American) - a fuck tonne of sales (In America) ooh Rah!
Making a truely next gen console, with the most varied and interesting library, advancing storage media type, advancing proccessor use, offering a free online system, with true global appeal, a real LUXURY, "next gen" product (read: not a PC with a beefy graphics card crammed into a box and locked down to XBL) and STILL only losing out less than 10% of sales to the competition?
PRICELESS.
Round eyed American's really struggle to comprehend that outside of your little island the rest of the world doesn't really rate the 360 quite like you do.
I've got one, it's not as good as my PS3.
Also, the damn thing was released costing about 500U$ here in Brazil (actually, only a few thousand units were shipped on the whole country) near christmas and it was sold out in a few hours, so EVEN MORE bank.
Moving on!
This just proves that the 360 still has a heartbeat. Despite Blu-Ray, despite 3D, despite the Cell, the PS3 still manages to stay behind Microsoft's console.
And last night's conferences were proof of just how different these two companies are.
Sony's conference was about them telling us what we want and what we need. Microsoft's, on the other hand, was about telling the user that it listens and it delivers based on our feedback.
I have no problem saying that MS is evolving and becoming an entirely different company, while Sony is slowly adopting the arrogance of the 1990's Microsoft.
@sexual chocolate
We don't know if those 20 million are silver accounts, do we? There's a few guys where I work who have xboxes but don't have live accounts at all. Not everyone bought this generations consoles with the intent to play online.
Last time I saw a picture of you your eyes looked pretty round, just saying.
Also.
"Our rules for banning are pretty straightforward: spamming, trolling, racism...."
Sexual chocolate....
"Appealing to the lowest common denominator (the Stupid American)"
It's almost like you want to get banned.
The thing is evolving the way we're going to look at a lot of games, and gaming in general. When the Wii came out, I think there was one story about how people used two Wii-motes to simulate "flapping your wings" on a PC devkit, and a few other ones that basically talked about the old Bluetooth technology it uses. The Move - nothing happened...at all.
You never know though, MS has been much more innovative in the gaming space than Sony.
You're just dying to get me banned, eh?
x
Really?
It was posted here, right here on Dtoid about the 360 having a 54% failure rate, the PS3 having (if I remember correctly) about 10% or 12% and the Wii had something like 6%.
You're really trying to tell me that the PS3 has a 100% failure rate.
You're really trying to tell me the WORST batch of 360's had a 16% failure rate.
Yeah Sofik. Yeah.
Oh and my launch model 60GB PS3 is still going strong, even if it does get a little noisy after a long session.
100% failure rate, you're fucking funny Sofik, real funny.
My brand new 1 month old 360 Slim sounds like a fucking jetplane.
If your friends have PS3's and don't know that it plays games, then dude, you need to get some new friends. Seriously?
It would be a shame if you got banned because 1% of the time you post you're a really cool, witty guy, the other 99% of the time you post it's flame baiting, idiotic bullshit
Whether I want you to be banned is not important, it's not like I'm tricking you into posting the same repetitive shit everyday, is it?
Maybe Sony's product is just more popular in my neck of the woods, but stores where I live have had there shelves stuffed with Kinects since they rolled out. I just can't picture it happening unless there are places where people are just horny for everything 360. Not every 360 fan is like Sofikk, and I'd bet money even he doesn't have one.
I'm not saying Move should be selling better by the way. Sony's numbers are just more believable. I went to pick up a 2nd Move controller the other day, and I had to hit 2 stores. They were on sale at Wally mart. Every bundle was sold, and only the one local had controllers on their own. Easy to picture Sony's sales numbers.
I still swear MS is cooking the books.
Also, my posts were a response. I'm not here preaching about how every Xbox ever made will definitely break (like Sofik) I'm just weighing in on others comments and you know, discussing things.
Dude, i like you. i hate it when we fight. Let's kiss and make up?? x
@Nyktharas - Sounds like a good idea bro! As soon as I finish work I'ma get my game on. Although i'm currently playing Splinter Cell conviction's single player campaign. (on Xbox 360)
