CES 2010:Mad Catz to make new FightSticks and FightPads photo

Mad Catz plans to follow-up on Capcom’s Street Fighter IV follow-up with more licensed Fight Sticks and Fight Pads. This afternoon, the manufacturer announced the Super Street Fighter IV Tournament Edition “S” Arcade Fight Stick and SSFIV-branded Fight Pads for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

According to the release materials, the stick will feature the same Sanwa parts and options as Mad Catz previous TE Fight Stick -- the key change is its slimmer size and different front art. On the Fight Pad front, we’re looking at four new Fight Pads with the same stuff as the last go around, just with new art.

No release date was announced, but Mad Catz expects that the TE Stick will retail at $149.99, while the Fight Pads will go for $39.99. Order soon this time, eh?

Will they last more than a month?

That's about the longest I've gotten out of any MadCatz product.

In before anti-MadCatz--Awwwwww Renegade beat me.

Seriously though, as a long time american gamer I am fully aware of MadCatz's shitty reputation, however their RockBand split-strum Bass and the Tournament Edition Fight Sticks and Fightpads are awesome. Very tempted to get one of these although I already have a 1st edition TE stick and a Ken Fightpad. Now if there was a T.Hawk Fightpad they'd have my $40.

I have to admit, I love that Madkatz decided to stop being a shit tier third party accessory maker, and moved onto awesome things.

And that's the sad part. All a company has to do is make the decision not to suck, and they can do it. So I don't understand why more don't.

Next to my video selector which I bought back in 93 and still use for my NES/SNES, these controllers are bad ass.

@ RenagadePanda:

My TE stick has been good since day 1 though I did replace the buttons to match the custom art I put in. My 360 fightpad is a different story though, I also got that day 1 and the d-pad is sticking a little. I've heard stores of the PS3 wireless ones being pretty bad as well.

I love how Madcatz are milking the TE line now considering they were supposed to be Limited.

But I guess I should've seen this coming anyway.

I've got my two original TE sticks, so I'm good, but I would have held off on one of them if I knew there would be alternate designs. Still, some of my friends complain about the bulk of my sticks (not that great for passing around the room, though I like it because it feels sturdier and more arcade-like), so having a slimmer option will be nice for some people.

Anyway, as others have said, the TE sticks are of extremely high quality, so I definitely recommend them, and as for the fightpads, I've got two of those (Comic-Con variety) and am very pleased with them as well. Fightpads are practically a necessity if you want a good d-pad on 360 for retro games that weren't designed for a fightstick.

@ Rammstein

The Femme Fatale one was also a TE, as was the MvC2 one. You also forgot the white and orange TE stick sold at Comic-Con.

Does anyone know what kinda parts they put inside these sticks? I haven't really seen anyone talk about that but again I also haven't really looked at what they use. I just got myself a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 SA so I'm not sure if I'll get the themed stick, but if they are good quality I just might.

Now I've lost count. :<

True on the MvC stick although the only screens I saw were in Standard variety, thus, I stand corrected.

They really are quality sticks though. I don't like using my TE on my lap as I prefer a hard/stable surface like a table. I get pretty intense in some matches, not to mention getting out of dizziness requires you to get all caveman-like on the stick. Sanwa parts FTW!

I haven't put any time into SF4 or MvC2 because I could never find a fight stick/pad. This is good news.

@oryharakestrel: All "Tournament Edition"(The larger, $150 version) Fight Sticks use Sanwa Denshi parts, which means they are an exact duplicate of the actual arcade machine, thus sturdier, better-quality, longer-lasting parts. The 'Standard Edition'(Smaller, $80 version) sticks don't. My roomate has a StandardEdition stick and it is still a decent product. The worst thing to happen to him has been a single button sticking, but that's no longer an issue. Hope this helps.

covah, they do make a Hori stick for the wii, its pretty and blue and white.

Get it now before the end of the month, because those bitches are about to get harder to find, and more expensive.

I have it, and it plugs into your wii-mote, and its fantastic (but I love hori sticks) Its a 4gate.

It did retail for $40, I found mine, used, at gamestop for $15.

I'd love to see a TE stick (or moddable equivalent) for TvC. 8-gate is the straight hate plate.

Ah well thanks for the feedback. I love my Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 with Sanwa parts. The thing is a dream to play on, just not used to the square gate though. So, I might just pick one of these bad boys out when they come out and just mod my Hori. I'm new to the arcade scene but I'm getting better! :P

I find square-gates sublime for 3D fighters. For some reason, they just seem easier to deal with that way. But when the topic of 2D comes up, I gotta say, the octo is most definitely the way to go. If you can mod your Hori with one, do it. Your QCF motions will thank you.

The TvC stick for Wii is based on the SE sticks, which are very easy to mod.

I just bought a Madcatz Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Special Edition tournament edition stick for PS3 (that is a mouthful). I love it.

Problem is, I'm not particularly good at arcade-style games, including fighters. I personally love peripherals for the way they change up gameplay, and I've been eager to learn how to play fighters seriously since I played GGXX a long time ago.

With that said, I love high-end gaming peripherals, which makes this announcement ever more tempting. However, due to my lack of skill at any of the games I'd use this new stick for, I think I'll have to remain satisfied with just my Marvel vs. Capcom stick.

A nice side effect to this is that the current gen of sticks are being discounted. :D
