CES 2010: If you buy Wii weights, you're the dumbell photo

Anybody who knows me is aware of my love for plastic junk, especially if its designed to accomodate a Wii remote. Nothing thrills me more than seeing twelve inch golf clubs that weigh an ounce and have a hole in the grip. So, you can imagine that CES is a playground for me.

Something I was surprised to have never seen before are these Wii Dumbells from Cyphergroups. Weighing just under kilogram, they're sold as a pair so you can use both a Wii remote and nunchuk. I'm not sure if you could really call them "free weights" if there's a cord connecting them, but I doubt anybody who would use the term "free weights" is going to fall into their target demographic of people who want to pretend they're into fitness through fads.

One cool thing about them is that sandbags are used to give the necessary weight that thin plastic just can't supply. This makes them a little adjustable, and there's enough space in the weights to double them up to a hefty two kilograms.

Useless? You bet it is. Thing is, this actually isn't the only pair I've seen at the show. These are just the best ones. Next they're going to show me a Wii billiard cue, I just know it.

How is this useless? I use small weights that go around my wrists when I go running, they're not even 1lb, yet they've toned my arms quite nicely. If you add this to a Wii-fit program, they certainly help, use them to play any game and you're gonna tone out your arms while playing.

Coming soon: Wii Wiimote. It's a Wiimote you put inside a Wiimote (insert meme joke here).

So, they don't even really have any weight to them? 1 kg?? How ridiculously useless! Make them with adjustable weights so that you can range from 2.2kg to 10kg or something that actually can assist in muscle development and it could be a hit, but this is total shit.

Um... Wii billiard cues already exist: http://www.techloops.com/wiibicuestse.html

Pretty sure they've been out as long as the cheap tennis rackets, baseball bats and golf clubs have.

People saying that 1kg-2kg are useless = People who don't know squat about working out.

WiiFit is about fast and numerous repetitions, I've yet to see somebody perform aerobics/yoga/pilates while carrying 5kg dumbells.

The Nunchuk had better be cordless if you're going to use those things seriously.

Now that you mention it, a billiard cue attachment would actually be pretty useful if some game company makes a billiard simulator, although I guess you could just tape a wii remote to any ol' cue

A billiard cue attachment would also be good for a game where you club people over the head with billiard cues.
