CES 2010: A backhanded compliment for the PSPgo photo

While cruising through the "Best of CES" showcase this week, Dale and I observed that the PSPgo received an "Honorable Mention." Good for Sony.

But wait, what's that? Why is the PSPgo all covered with dust? It's almost as though somebody didn't care enough about it to give the thing a quick wipe-down before shoving it into a glass case. Or perhaps it's a statement on how much use the little guy is getting.

I know my standard PSP spends most of its time just sitting around. Sometimes, I like to imagine that it's having conversations with my other, older gadgets and handhelds. The sort of thing that you would have read about in The Velveteen Rabbit until Toy Story came along and will now forever be the only reference to this idea ever. Culture. Pshaw.

For those of you who have a PSPgo, or any PSP for that matter, does yours have these same telltale signs of neglect?

My PSP is too busy constantly playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max to gather any dust. I don't care how much the controls make my hands want to break apart, there is no shit better than that in a waiting room.

I keep mine in the travel hard case I got for it and tend to move it around a lot thinking I'm going to it up and finish Persona, maybe play Project Diva or something. Well, my stack of games maybe proof. I had Project Diva sitting on top of them on my desk and it was pretty dusty so I guess you can call that a sign of neglect. But I do that same to my DS and Wii, as well as my PS2 for Persona 4. Or all the DVDs I need to watch... yeah, dust.

I was thinking of getting a psp on lockerz but I wasn't so sure if I should. Sure it has Peace walker and....those other games, but I could just upgrade my DS phat to a DSi. Plus I could wait for a ps3 port...right?

Aside from PSone classics, which are already available on the PS3, the only thing my PSP has seen much is Crisis Core and God of War. I'm hoping Metal Gear Peace Walker will change my mind about that, because MGS4 almost made me buy a PS3 (if it wasn't for a friend who played it to the end with me on his ps3, hah)

This reminds me, I have to finish FF7...

I gave my psp fat to my brother who was deployed to Iraq for a year. Music, games, and movies all in one place, hopefully he is getting good use out of it.

On the very rare occasion that I do feel like playing my PSP, I first have to plug it in, let it charge, and go through the system settings, because it will have been so long since I last played it that the battery will have drained itself.

My PSP has a broken screen from being dropped a lot. I only have one actually good game on it, and the rest are okay. I mostly use it for demos and right now it's collecting dust. I've got a DS now to play with good games so it'll probably sit up there by the TV for some time.

My PSP-3000 gets fair enough attention, but I've been buying just as much for my DS as I have ever been and a lot less for my PSP.

Mostly, I feel Sony is the one that's neglecting PSP, not gamers.

I play mine somewhat often, though admittedly just to play NES/SNES/Genesis/PS games. There are some pretty good newer PSP games, but I don't want to go through the trouble to update my custom firmware, cause it's sometimes a bigass hassle. I will go through the trouble for Valkyria Chronicles 2, though.

I typed this via a PSP.

Yeah, I always have it in my hands/pocket. Playing FF7, FF8, Dissidia (Digital), SoulCalibur, and Monster Hunter often.

GoW:CoO was good but too short..

I take my DSi and PSP with me just about everywhere... but I rarely play either as of late. Instead, I've been playing Pokemon on my GBA-SP.

Yeah, my two PSPs gather the dust pictured here. Well, not the same dust, as they're not at CES. I play my DSLite more than the three PSPs I've owned PUT TOGETHER.

Don't have a PSP, but I do have a NDS that gets very, very little play. And when I do play it, it's either to play Jump Ultimate Stars (a game that never came to America) or Garou: Mark of the Wolves (a game that wasn't even made for the DS).

I do. Almost every night before bed. It sits on my bedside table. I just do a few rounds of Dissidia or run around and do a few missions in Liberty City or Vice City stories. I really was underwhelmed by the DS. Traded it in for my psp3000. I didn't get the Go simply because I can't borrow my buddies games. That's a big deal breaker. No used or borrowed games!? Pshaw rieeght. Denied!

My PSP sits around in its case most of the time. So it's comparable to your PSP meets Toy Story analogy, except with a case that would be like a...gimp suit?

I don't know why I think of these things.

My old fat PSP sees intermittent use. I just (finally) picked up Dissidia, so I've been playing the crap out of it, but before that, it sat for a good long while. Before I got an mp3 player though, I brought the thing with me to work every day, without fail. If and when I get Persona for it, I'll be playing it a bunch then, too. Otherwise the poor old devil sits on my nightstand looking sad and angry.

My PSP 1000 goes everywhere with me all the time. Its held together with some electrical tape, i have had to replace the screen once cause it got dropped and im on its second battery. It is however starting to really show its age as the buttons dont seem to be working right. Been trying to convince the wife to let me get a 3000 to replace it, but since it still works she doesnt see the point :) If it could just be a celphone too it would be the greatest thing ever (i despise how small celphones have become, the PSP would be the perfect size for a phone for me)

My PSP1000 is still in great condition. I keep it in a fully enclosed hard-case with speakers in the lid, dust doesn't seem to get in so when I don't touch it for long periods it still looks good.

I'm lovin' my PSP3000, actually. I've already put about 20 hours into Pangya. After I beat that, I've got Metal Gear Acid to try out. And somewhere down the road I still have to pick up God of War: Chains of Olympus.

I hope developers don't decide to just quit making good games for the PSP after I've played all the titles I need to get through.

I noticed there was no top 10 list for the PSP for this year. Why's that?

My 1000 is pretty dusty. I've thought about upgrading to a newer model, but each time I do, I realize that my 1000 can hold dust just as well as the newer models.

My PSP-1000 never gets dusty because I leave it in the nice sleeve that came with it.

Other than that I just bought Dissidia @ Target for 20 bucks last week and before that it was...patapon 2? I keep WANTING to buy psp games (especially from PSN) but for some reason my mental limit on pricing is 20 dollars with handhelds. Then once they get to about 10 I wonder why the hell they're so cheap. It's a fine line to walk when pricing handheld games. Also pricing parity sucks (as my recent Dissidia purchase is testament to, on PSN its still 40)

Can't remember when the PSP first launched but add 1 year to that and that's the last time I used it. Same for my roommate. Our PSP's just sit in a drawer, unused. I was curious about it last year, tried to turn them both on, they didn't, gave up, went back to my DS/R4.

I don't have a Go, since I have a PS3-3000 (that's what the model before go is called, right?) But I DL games instead of UMDing it.
And I use my PSP at least once a day. It's my game machine for when I poop. So I guess calling the PSP Go is even more appropriate for me than Sony meant it as.

But I will buy a Go the day my old PSP is no good anymore. Should be awhile, though.

I have to admit some insanity before my trip to india saw me purchase a PSPGo a year after having flogged my CFW PSP to buy a new camera lens.

IT SAVED MY SANITY!

I DL'ed all I could afford and all I can say is that FF7 got a shitload of play.... Mainly coz I was stuck in a shithole village in Gujarat and all I had for entertainment was my MP3 player, my severely underpowered netbook and my PSPGo.

Now it comes to work with me every day due to the fact I got FIFA 10 for it...... It is well loved. Much more so than my wife apparently.

Sadly mine is, as it's exam month here in Ireland and last month was a flurry of essays and presentations, so I don't have much time left for gaming. And right now I'm too engossed in Dragon Age: Origins to leave it unplayed.

@burnblaze
Had I a PSP last year when I travelled India it would have made things much more merry. As it was all I brought was my DS with FF3 and some Dragonball Z game - it did the job but maaan a PSP would have been sweet.
