CES 2009: Microsoft wants you to have more than 100 friends on Xbox LIVE photo

If there's one thing people have been asking for since pretty much the first month or so after buying their Xbox 360, it's that Microsoft removes the 100-person friends list restriction.

Some of us have gotten around the limit by using the "view your friend's friends list" trick, but I think it's about time we got a real solution. Joystiq spoke with Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg about the matter during CES, and he surprisingly responded with something other than "no comment."

"I can't commit to when that will happen, but that is something we want to do," says Greenberg. "It's definitely something we're looking at expanding and, as this social network grows, we've absolutely heard the pleas for that. It's on the list."

While this is certainly no official announcement or anything, I'll gladly admit it is nice to hear that the idea is at least being entertained.

I only have one friend on my 360 list. :P I need to add some Dtoiders to my list, but since I don't have a gold membership yet (and probably won't until later in the year), I haven't really been in a hurry.

I also find that AITD and Lost Odyssey aren't very great for multiplayer.

Man, that's some out-of-date version of my avatar on that picture.

5th row up, 2nd from left if anyone's wondering. Just next to Gemsi.

I don't see how this matters much. At all. 100 friends is more than enough, even for the loser who fills his list with other losers he only teams with to rank up in games.

I've still got a ways to go before this is an issue. I have around 40 friends. Meh.

@ SP420: I'm constantly having to delete people from my list to make room for new ones, so I call bullshit on that statement. 100 isn't nearly enough if you're part of a community like Dtoid.

I thought the 100-friend cap was ridiculous before, and that I'd never reach it, but I quickly filled up my list with Dtoiders when Street Fighter HD Remix came out.

I agree that for the average person, 100 is more than enough, but like Mxy says it's easy to go over the limit when you have many Dtoid friends.

"Some of us have gotten around the limit by using the "view your friend's friends list" trick"

Can you explain how to do this?

I don't have 100 friends, only about 50, but I don't play as much multi-player games as other people. So I can see how that could be a problem.

MS makes us PAY 60$ for a year of Xbox live. I call bullshit.

Wikzo, if you check out your friend's profile, you can go to the right and choose to look at that person's friends list. "View friends" or something, I forget what it's called.

Anyway, since a lot of Dtoid people are interconnected on their friends lists, you can find a lot of people by looking at friends of friends.

Still waiting on that Destructoid friend request to be accepted. *Sigh* Maybe if I said "friend" more times in this comment it'll happen.

If they're going to do this, why haven't they added a simple feature to "sort" friends or categorize them? It'd be nice to be able to have sections for real life friends, friends you play (for instance) L4D with, D-toid friends, or whatever, instead of just a long ass group of 100 people.

Who wants to bet that you will have to pay for an extended friends list? I need to pay for it somehow...

Finally! 100 friends is a major problem for most of us Dtoiders.
