CES 2009: Halo Wars release date and demo announced photo

The CES 2009 keynote just wrapped up where our boys Nick Chester and Dale North tweeted their brains out about all of the new Microsoft products coming out soon. Windows 7 looks pretty tempting!

Anyway, Robbie Bach of Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division talked about all things Xbox 360-related and dropped some Halo-related information for all you Halo fans. Why yes, people actually still play Halo! In fact, the average user has played 150 hours of Halo on Xbox LIVE! Oh snap!

After we got some stats about Halo 3, Robbie talked briefly about Halo Wars and Halo: ODST. A demo for Halo Wars will be hitting Xbox LIVE on February 5, a few of weeks before its release, which was confirmed for February 28. It was also revealed that Halo Wars is going to be rated Teen, a first for the Halo series.

As for Halo: ODST, nothing at all was said about it other than that it's coming out this year, which was already known. Looks like Nick was right about the keynote being a snoozefest.

[Update: Halo Wars coming out in America on March 3.]

I'm not really sure CES is the best place to announce stuff like this.

Anyway, I always thought that the other games in the Halo series ought to have been rated T. I mean, compared to other M games, Halo is extremely tame. No dismemberment, minimal blood, no swearing...

a demo for Halo Wars sounds interesting. I'm still not truly convinced about the whole Halo RTS thing.

I find it pretty funny that Halo Wars is the first to get a teen rating while Halo seems to have been marketed from day one toward teenagers... And it's also what you'll hear the most on XBox Live.

Thank you, parents, for doing your job.

ya halo never did strike me as an m rated title. I often forget that it is rated M.

I still play Halo quite a lot, although no where near as much as when I first got it.

Really looking forward to ODST. As for Halo wars, I'll try it out for sure. I just hope it'll FEEL like halo.

Is there really a diehard RTS fan out there waiting for this?

Might try the demo though won't be expecting much...

Halo originally started out as a RTS, so it is only fair that it gets a RTS 'spin-off'. Personally, I am not a big fan of RTS but I will buy this because I'm a big fan of Halo.

As for the 'gaylo' comments, this isn't middle school. Grow up. :)
