CES 2009: Feet-on with Nyko's Rock Band/Guitar Hero 'Metal Pedal' photo

When Nyko first revealed its third-party drum peripheral kick pedal replacement, the "Metal Pedal," I was in awe. As I put it: "it has a motherf**king skeleton on it, guys. And you can't get much more metal than a skeleton."

As it so happens, I was wrong, and Nyko out-metaled themselves with the packaging for the "Metal Pedal." Folks, it comes in a package shaped like a motherf**king coffin, and that's how you get more metal than a skeleton.

Nyko brought the pedal to CES for us to try out, and after ripping through Alice in Chains' "Man in the Box," I'm confident they have a winner on their hands. The pedal is as heavy-duty as Nyko suggested in its press materials, and when pounding on it relentlessly with my little drummer foot, I didn't get the impression it was going to snap into two pieces after a few drunken sets. The pedal will also ship with a splitter jack so you'll be able to connect two kick pedals, which will come in handy for Guitar Hero: Metallica's Expert Plus mode.

The good news is that the Metal Pedal is compatible with drum peripherals designed for both Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band, and on all platforms. The better news is that the pedal is going to retail for a mere $19.99. It's a clear step up from the default pedal for World Tour, and for those considered about busting their existing pedal, this seems like a great buy.

And it has a skull on it and ships in a coffin box. Nyko's "Metal Pedal" ships to retail this spring.

So it's a Medal Pedal or a Metal Pedal or a Medal Petal?

for $20, I'll get one.

but the question I need to know is this
Is the pedal a switch(like Rock Band) or a button(like GH)?

Does it feel better? Like, less springy than the RB2 pedal?

For $20, that's pretty damn good, though I would still prefer buying a more realistic bass pedal instead of spring-mounted ones. I need that beater and chain as of late, so I'm happy with my Omega Pedal.

Hmm...do I get this, or the Omega Pedal? Better yet, is the Omega Pedal really worth the dough? It's a tough decision- purchase a kick-ass pedal that's an actual drum pedal, or be a cheap-ass bastard and get this.

...Decisions, decisions.

It's tempting at $20 but Ron brought up a good point. Does it feel springy like the original? Because then I'd rather get the Omega.

Sweet! I'll be picking that up if it's ever released over here in Europe :-)

If it provides the functionality for the second pedal, I'm in (especially for just $20). I'll keep my existing pedal as the primary and make this the second pedal. Plus, it's cheaper than other splitters (Omega Pedal's Twin Rocker is $25).

At least we don't have any Grandpa's guitars accessories.

That is a metal pedal. very brutal. Also, I love that they include a splitter jack. That'll be great. Anyone know if the splitter method works with Rock Bands 2?
