CES 2008: In-game XMB is coming to a PS3 near you soon photo

It's almost time to quit yer bellyachin', as Sony has finally announced that PS3 owners will soon be able to get into their console's operating system without having to leave the comfort of their game's universe. An in-game XMB has been on the average PS3 lover's wishlist for some time now, so it was hardly a surprise that Sony would follow in the Xbox 360's footsteps and provide one. Yay for all with a black box of Blu-ray!

Sony made the announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show, but is too busy focusing on hardware at the event to talk in-depth about the XMB. A date should hopefully be coming soon, along with more details. This should make life a little sweeter for PS3 owners, at any rate, so Sony needs to get on the ball quick.

Cool. Even if the full XMB isn't available, as long as sending/recieving messages works and you can see what your friends are up to without leaving the game, that is enough for me.

Also, 6 way video chat in-game please.

Funny, I was reading someone complaining about the lack of this feature earlier today, then I read about this soon after! The walls have ears! And potatoes, eyes!!

slowly but surely, hardcore xbox fans are running out of things to diss/compare on the 360 and ps3.

I'll believe it when I see it. Promises like this from Sony hold very little weight these days.

That's Sterling's uncle, Sir Quimby Sterling of Edelberry. I'm not sure who the person is that hes laying across, though.

Seconding the pic. Of course, like everything else Sony does it'll get pushed back until 2013. But still, the idea sure is nice.

Tazar: No, that's my drunk Russian uncle Boris Sterlikoff. He was once chief advisor to the Tsar but was sentenced to execution for downloading non-communist porn to politburo computers. He was eventually pardoned however, on the grounds that the porno was just that good.

@Y0j1mb0: Sorry, but D*ck in a Box is a much better song than D*ck in a Podium.

electro:

As a frequent checker of my friends list and as someone who gets quite a few friend requests/sends a few invites, being able to have access to dashboard features in-game is very useful. If I'd loaded some of my music to the Xbox's HD as well, I'd probably use it even more. Plus it keeps me occupied during loading screens!

The only thing really holding this back is unlike the 360, the ps3 uses its hdd frequently

Custom soundtracks FTW! - I only ever wanted DivX support and that.
I just want to be able to play Ride Of The Valkyries whilst firing a stupidly big machine into a wall of enemies whilst laughing manically, all within a game. Or something else along those general lines.

ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD!

Seriously, though, this is great news. Everyone knows that PS3 owners have been clamoring for this since the PS3 came out, and this will hopefully alleviate a lot of the problems that PS3 owners have been having in terms of coordinating for FNF and such. I just hope “soon” doesn’t mean “Fall 2008”...

Also...what the hell did you type into Google Images to get that pic, Jim?
