When Topher wrote about Nyko's forthcoming wireless Nunchuk peripheral for the Wii back in December, I was a bit skeptical -- a wireless nunchuk? The Wii remote itself is already untethered, and the first-party nunchuk does offer a sizeable leash. So is this really necessary?
CNET apparently thinks so, awarding it "Best of CES" for the gaming category at this year's show. Better than LittleBigPlanet. Better than Yoda fighting Mitsurugi. Better than a curved gaming monitor. Better than everything gaming related at this year's CES. A wireless nunchuk for the Wii.
Don't get me wrong -- I want one; my cats like to chew on wires. OK, fine ... I like to chew on wires. But this is exactly what it sounds like -- a wireless nunchuk that functions exactly like a wired nunchuk. Except it doesn't have wires. That's why it's called "wireless."
The peripheral will be available in the first quarter of 2008, and will ship with the necessary two AAA batteries which Nyko says will provide up to 30 hours of gameplay. Also, it's wireless. Did I mention that yet?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Seriously come on...
One more thing for someone to chuck through their TV screen...

finally that game will be playable :-)
I will never buy one. Thanks, though, Nyko, for providing the public with something we never even asked for, let alone knew we wanted.
It's in the wrong hand in that picture. How hard is it to have it in the left hand.
and the award is for Best in Gaming, so why all the hate ? it fits is all.... and bin the conspiracy theories, please. kill the cynic in you.
This honestly makes me wonder what CNET is even DOING at a technology expo.
I can picture the CNET correspondant at CES '08 now...
"Wow, this thing is tiny! What?! What do you mean there's no wires?!! Well there's GOT to be some sort of MAGICAL creature inside powering the device. Batteries?!? You mean energy can be HARNESSED in a small metal cylander and used to power other devices now? You, Sir have just won my vote for best new technology! I want to shake your hand."
some people are left-handed you know
Considering all of Nyko's Wii peripherals have gotten RAVE reviews, I'd say no.
