When Topher wrote about Nyko's forthcoming wireless Nunchuk peripheral for the Wii back in December, I was a bit skeptical -- a wireless nunchuk? The Wii remote itself is already untethered, and the first-party nunchuk does offer a sizeable leash. So is this really necessary?

CNET apparently thinks so, awarding it "Best of CES" for the gaming category at this year's show. Better than LittleBigPlanet. Better than Yoda fighting Mitsurugi. Better than a curved gaming monitor. Better than everything gaming related at this year's CES. A wireless nunchuk for the Wii.

Don't get me wrong -- I want one; my cats like to chew on wires. OK, fine ... I like to chew on wires. But this is exactly what it sounds like -- a wireless nunchuk that functions exactly like a wired nunchuk. Except it doesn't have wires. That's why it's called "wireless."

The peripheral will be available in the first quarter of 2008, and will ship with the necessary two AAA batteries which Nyko says will provide up to 30 hours of gameplay. Also, it's wireless. Did I mention that yet?

Also, that is BS. There was so much stuff at CES... a 3mm thick OLED 22 inch monitor.... ridiculously cool things... and a wireless nun-freaking-chuk wins?

Seriously come on...

This is CNET. Take it with a pinch of salt. And Kane & Lynch.

Umm... that's kind of retarded. I like my wired one just fine. Besides, I have enough trouble trying to find ONE wireless controller in my basket o' controllers. Trying to find two that aren't tied to each other would suck.

One more thing for someone to chuck through their TV screen...

Now nyko can open up a legal department to handle broken TV's. Good for them.

Is CNet seriously trying to lose every shred of credibility they ever had?

Awesome. Now people can spend EVEN MORE money on batteries for the Wii. Cool. /sarcasm

I will never buy one. Thanks, though, Nyko, for providing the public with something we never even asked for, let alone knew we wanted.

At the very least Nyko should have included some sort of rechargeable battery deal.

Why all the hate on this product? If you don't want one fine don't buy it.

I'd check them out, but I still wonder how much that deal cost Nyko.

As stupid as giving it the prize is, (and it is very stupid). More stupid....

It's in the wrong hand in that picture. How hard is it to have it in the left hand.

i thot the whole point of the Wiimote/Nunchuck controller combo was so that it would be ambidextrous <there is no wrong hand>

and the award is for Best in Gaming, so why all the hate ? it fits is all.... and bin the conspiracy theories, please. kill the cynic in you.

Guys, have you forgotten this is CNET? The only question we should be asking is how much Nyko paid for that best of CES award.

@MasterMS: I don't think we're really hating on the product as much as hating on the fact that it won a "best of" award. The product isn't released yet, so they must think the idea of a wireless nunchuk is the best idea they saw at CES. I personally have not ever wanted the cord removed.

This honestly makes me wonder what CNET is even DOING at a technology expo.

I can picture the CNET correspondant at CES '08 now...

"Wow, this thing is tiny! What?! What do you mean there's no wires?!! Well there's GOT to be some sort of MAGICAL creature inside powering the device. Batteries?!? You mean energy can be HARNESSED in a small metal cylander and used to power other devices now? You, Sir have just won my vote for best new technology! I want to shake your hand."

we'll see how much you guys will be hating the wireless nunchuck after all the wires to your nunchucks turn pink!

The only reason I would buy a wireless nunchuck is because I am tired of the fucking cord whipping me in the fucking forehead when I play Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and have to do a Spirit Bomb attack.

Totally unnecessary. Still, if these were wireless to begin with, I wouldn't have complained.

vp360: "is nyko the new madcatz or something?"

Considering all of Nyko's Wii peripherals have gotten RAVE reviews, I'd say no.

I call mistrial. There is absolutely no way a curved monitor with the potential to be hooked side-by-side with multiple units to create a circular monitor space like in the movies can not win at everything.
