We praised World of Goo pretty warmly, and we hoped that gamers took that to heart and purchased it back when the game was released. If you didn't, or you simply missed it, now is your chance -- to celebrate the one year birthday of the game, 2D Boy has decided to let gamers make up a price for it and purchase it at that price. One dollar? One hundred dollars? Up to you!
If you're interested, head here and you'll see the screen above. This deal runs through October 19th, so you have six days left to go pay what you want for this excellent game. Protip: you should pay what it's worth and avoid the temptation to totally cheat the system. After all, 2D Boy deserves it for making a game that good!
[Thanks to Ali D for the tip!]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
But it doesn't allow you to pay nothing...
I've still not received a redemption email. Directed myself to a page where I can put in my details for a web browser version of the email but that doesn't work!!! =(
That being said, WoG was my Wii GOTY, and if you haven't played it yet, I suggest you do so now.
Kidding.

"The 2D Boy co-founder showed a chart with the total relative revenue for the game to date. According to this, in decreasing order, around 40% of 2D Boy's revenue is from WiiWare in North America, around 20-25% PC/Mac/Linux sales from 2DBoy.com, 15% of PC sales from Steam, 12% sales from WiiWare in Europe -- and then smaller amounts from there."
67% of all of the game's revenue was unaffected by the potential of piracy, and post-release promotions pushed sales even further. Therefore, piracy sucks but there are ways to succeed against it without screwing over legitimate consumers.
Buy that shit. For a good price
They must be overloaded. All platforms, bar Wii, are included. (see header image)
Onlineatron: How exactly would you "pay" nothing for something? You can get something for nothing but you can't pay nothing. Wouldn't really be payment, now would it? If you're just concerned about exchanging cash for goods maybe you could email them and work out some sort of barter agreement.
GohanGVO: I get it. You're a joker, you make jokes! Do you not realize that anyone who can run a Steam copy can run a pirated copy on their computer? Or that Wiiware piracy is relatively easy and fairly widespread? Are you really so stupid that you think those sales are "unaffected by the potential of piracy" (whatever the fuck that means) or are you just that ignorant? It shocks the mind! You could say that with this sale effectively making the game free (you're too poor to be reading this if you think a penny is anything but effectively free) means that piracy of the game is unaffected by sales, but that isn't the point you were making because you were making jokes instead of sense.
You also got your math (or reading [or both]) wrong. The article you quoted (IN THE SECTION YOU POSTED!!!) clearly states, "15% of PC sales from Steam" (emphasis added). That means 3.75% of total sales (the number being discussed) if you assume the upper end of 25% of total sales occurring on PC. Have you graduated clown school yet or are you still practicing the unicycle and juggling? Because this is some good stuff, I think you'll get decent marks from your professors.
I kind of want to buy it again, though. It's worth way more than that.
