Polish developer CD Projekt RED wants to put The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings on consoles. In a post-leak interview with GRY-OnLine, game senior producer Tomas Gop confirmed the rumors and speculation of a possible console release by revealing the developer’s goal. “Although PC is a certain choice we made regarding platforms for The Witcher 2,” he said, “we also want to release the console version.”
Gop added later that the game would not be released soon. The studio is still deep in development, and more importantly, without a publisher if that leaked video was any indication of current events.
"However, please do not expect the game too soon," said Gop. "The Witcher 2 is still deeply in the development stage and as it is huge and complex, there are still many, many hours of work in front of us."
The Witcher is a tremendous RPG and it’s a shame that the console version -- dubbed "Rise of the White Wolf" -- was cancelled (or “frozen,” or whatever). We’ll keep our fingers crossed that this The Witcher title (a) hits retail and (b) graces store shelves outside of the PC section.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. About the console thing, my main gripe with the game could be solved in consoles: The battle system. It was just plain awkward. It led to some pretty glitchy moments of ground skiing, hit detection was messy andif the enemy moved a lot, keeping your cursor on top of it could prove troublesome. Consoley one-button-for-attacking gameplay could prove more complling, but they'd have to optimize a lot Geralt's movements in-battle. Dodging was painfully weird and obstrusive.
Either way, I will stick with the PC for the visual bliss it will bring. I like to keep my non-japanese RPGs on the PC as much as I can.
@Crunshii:Sounds perfectly reasonable. Anyone else heard about Microsoft buying EA, bu the way? o.O I find it highly unlikely, but if it did happen, things could get pretty shakey around these parts.
Make it so.
Let the petulant children have their Witcher 2.
Well, since he says right there the focus of the game is PC, obviously it would be a afterthought port.
And unfortunately, unlike PC ports of console games, console ports of PC games tend to be crap.
Why not... you know... try it out? Get a PC?
Also, I hope this doesn't fall like getting The Witcher on consoles did. They seemed pretty set on bringing the whole experience over, which was good.
I hope it comes for the 360. That's my main gaming platform. Risen was delayed for the 360 in North America. I enjoy western RPG's.
Looking forward to Borderlands!!
Well, I always thought of console that way, couldn't imagine using one, until a lot of games came out for only consoles and I learned to use them for those games.
You could learn to use a PC for PC exclusives too. There is no reason not to. There are so many classic PC games that never went to console you could probably game for 5 years and never buy a new release.
