Near the end of my TGS time in Tokyo, I was lucky enough to meet up with Tyrone Rodriguez of Nicalis, Inc. You know Tyrone. He's the guy who helped bring Cave Story to WiiWare, and thank the Lord, it sounds like he's still working his connections to squeeze more out of the title.
He and Pixel (Cave Story's creator) have been bouncing a few ideas around; bringing more Pixel games to consoles, putting Cave Story on more consoles, tweaking the pre-existing WiiWare version of the game, and tooling around with the very different, rarely seen Cave Story Beta. Nothing's set in stone yet, but it's all possible. I was excited enough by the sound of that, but then, as I was putting on my shoes, Tyrone showed me something... awesome.
More to come as soon as I get the green light from Tyrone and the gang.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I am currently at the end game of my 3hp Polar Star only run, I've had more hours with this game than any other game I think :) I would gladly pay for it to support Pixel.
Besides I'm a little more excited about Nicalis' next offering (which they showed at TGS, but I had to watch the pretape cause they did it at 6AM pacific :( )
La Mulana was announced in July 2009, so even that game is well over a year in development now. I'm all for developers taking the time to get it right, but finish what you started, before taking on more things that you just can't handle right now. The games that they're making look great, but out of three games, you have only released one of them so far!
It's weird to me that Nicalis gets so much crap from Cave Story fans. Pixel approved everything that went into the WiiWare version of the game. Nicalis was just an extension of his creative will.
What do you mean by THESE clowns? You mean the clowns that made Cave Story in the first place?
(yes please!)
If yes, then about damn time!!!
If no, then you should be ashamed...
Anything by Pixel himself is very much worth watching.
I'll tell you though, Tyrone is extremely passionate about games, and he takes this stuff very seriously. He does not, however, have much money. Like Pixel, he's pretty much making this stuff from his own pocket. Hopefully Cave Story Wii helped him to gain some capital for his next projects. Judging from the looks of La-Mulana, I think that's highly likely.
Especially considering that one of you guys on an earlier Bit Transmission said something along the lines of the creator wanted to keep doing different projects as opposed to doing sequels and/or focus on other things but games. See! I learn stuff from Destructoid every once in a while. :)
Either way, it's fine by me! Cave Story (on the Wii) was one of the more enjoyable experiences of Q1 and definitely a pleasant surprise as I hadn't tried the PC version.
And as for Nicalis, I think we've all just grown really impatient and worried, that's all. They post a bunch of blog posts at once, then they disappear and don't give us any updates for months. They've got Night Sky, La Mulana, Saira (mentioned in one article on IGN, then released on PC, so I don't know if this is still coming to WiiWare), and Nicalis's site had a teaser post of images from Pixel's other games (including Guxt). They've got A LOT of things in the works, and with the loooong wait for Cave Story and a possible new Nintendo console on the horizon in the next two years, I'm really, really scared that some of their games might never come out.
And I think a Cave Story patch would do a lot to make fans chill the eff out.
A new cave story would really be a great thing to see.
(I should have said that last sentence in my last post.)
Oh, and... hehe... the two rather ambiguous object in the game... lipstick and panty XD Oh Pixel, you naughty XD
Not that it needs a sequel or anything (Biochock didn't need a sequel either, but that's beside the point). Cave Story surprised me by how good it was, so I had no hesitations to buy it when it came out for Wii. It's really one of my favorite games that I've ever played. But I don't want it to be ruined by a tacked-on sequel. But in the hands of its original creator, I bet that a sequel will be very faithful to the original. From what I've heard, Pixel made Cave Story not for the money, but for the sheer love of the project. I'd be really excited to play any more games that a guy like that could make.
Now if they re-released it on 360 with fixed sound and gave it online co-op, they could have all my money. And a Cave Story 2 would be superb.
Give him all the money. All of it.
