Who says good games can't sell on the Wii? Nicalis has just confirmed that Cave Story is doing very well following its WiiWare launch this past Monday. So well, in fact, that it has climbed to number one in the online store's top twenty. Well, that's just super!
"Cave Story hit number 1 on the Wii Shop Store Top 20," boasts Nicalis. "It’s all thanks to everyone."
Great news and a nice slice of evidence that games like this can do well on WiiWare if someone gives them a chance. I had feared that the game would go up and fail to get very far, but it seems that the hype and anticipation has paid off. Congratulations to Nicalis are in order.

But I'm glad it's selling well. Because it's borderline criminal that one of the best game makers of our time has to do it as a hobby.

So turn on the original music. It's there.
The point of this is that games like this need to be supported. Period.
Once I'm finished I'll plow through the boss rush mode and then start on Curly Brace mode.Hopefully, Nicalis can get a patch out to fix the sound issue.
I also need to finish playing through Red Steel 2. It's definetly one of the best third-party games out there.
Just started playing Cave Story and it's not indie enough for me. It sells well on WiiWare, therefore it's shit.
I prefer Passage to this. It's free, it's 100% indie, it's so emotional and engaging, that I married the next day after playing it.
it's like a magic mix of mario's bounciness, metroid's upgrades, and zelda's exploration. nice job, pixel!

The original music in this is fine, but it loops improperly and such...it's awful.
Still a fantastic game though.
I wonder if Curly Mode changes the game whatsoever.

By the by, True Final Boss is probably the hardest motherfucker I have ever faced in any video game, ever. Especially since the level leading up to him is such a bitch to go through without losing almost everything.

This news puts me in a ridiculously good mood. This SO deserved to do well.
I still enjoyed it a ton though and am remembering just how hard Ballos is. Luckly I got the Snake so I can just cower behind walls through most of my Hell runthrough.
I don't think I'll be beating this game on Hard Mode, but I love the option to play as Curly. Also, I'm surprised at how much I suck at the boss rush mode. And I've beaten every 2D Megaman game, plus IWBTG. Maybe I'm just rusty with Cave Story's mechanics.
